We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Saya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Saya, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My purpose in art is to create a world where I have control over making and sharing what I am capable of. I can choose and spread beauty vs. dark, hope vs. despair, light, energy, and much more. Art is a language, especially 2D art or painting, where the viewer can see or, better yet, feel what the artist is trying to convey, heart to heart. It evokes a wide range of emotions and beliefs in a matter of seconds. My purpose is to spread and invite people to the feeling of hope, energy, expansion, and light. Even for a moment, in a few seconds, they can feel my brushstrokes on their wall that keep them energized and hopeful.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My art is about creating a space of hope, expansion, light, and energy through my materials and colors. Most of my work begins with a center and then expands out, or presents some elements connected to it. The center can be interpreted in various ways, such as the sun, light, hope, or an energy system.
I am drawn to inspiration from nature, from macro to micro, such as the sacred geometry patterns inside a flower, to galaxies and nebulae energies.
Another aspect of my work involves creating handmade colors from botanicals, minerals, and various pigments I discover. These can come from various sources, making my work more vibrant.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
We are all born with exceptional qualities and skills that are unique to us. It is much easier to become skilled in a field that is very close to our heart than in other areas where we need to work harder, whether genetically, physically, or naturally, to achieve proficiency.
Finding these qualities in ourselves is the first step. The big question we ask ourselves is, what is my true calling, talent, and love? Don’t be afraid to express them or try, because we will be judged.
Having our whole heart in the field, let us not feel the long hours of hard work, which helps us acquire skills that create quality and gather more knowledge.
Quality doesn’t need much marketing and advertising to become successful.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
The feeling of being overwhelmed is one of the most stressful emotions. I tend to accept more and say yes often, or I have an urge to challenge myself. As a result of these, I feel overwhelmed.
The solution I’ve found is to constantly remind myself, “I can handle it,” especially when fear strikes.
I need to think more about how to handle things better.
Another solution is to break the task that overwhelmed me into smaller parts and think about those small steps. Finish each part and give a reward to myself.
