Meet Sayed Rohani

We were lucky to catch up with Sayed Rohani recently and have shared our conversation below.

Sayed, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

.Self-esteem and self-confidence stem from two sources: internal and external. The internal source comes from within oneself. Abilities such as knowledge, talent, and mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical strength are one’s true treasures. Those who rely on their own abilities and strengths naturally possess strong self-esteem and self-confidence. However, it is important to acknowledge that some talented individuals remain undiscovered due to challenging circumstances such as poverty, harsh environments, and other hardships. These conditions can significantly impact a person’s self-esteem and self-confidence. Generally, individuals struggling with adversity, particularly those in poverty, tend to have lower levels of self-esteem and self-confidence.

Conversely, self-esteem and self-confidence derived from external sources exist at different levels. People who are wealthy, famous, or hold high positions often enjoy greater opportunities to develop their knowledge, talents, and emotional and mental abilities. As a result, they tend to have well-developed self-esteem and self-confidence.

The distinction between internal and external sources of self-esteem and self-confidence aligns with the belief that greatness is born inside you, while glory is born outside you. This profound statement highlights the difference between internal growth and external recognition.

Greatness is born inside you suggests that true greatness originates from within. Every individual possesses unique talents, potential, and qualities that, when recognized and cultivated, lead to personal growth and remarkable achievements. Greatness is not something granted by external sources; rather, it emerges from the core of one’s being. It allows individuals to truly understand themselves—their strengths, weaknesses, emotions, hidden flaws, inner beauty, true allies, real enemies, and authentic likes and dislikes.

Glory is born outside you refers to the recognition, accolades, and admiration one receives from others for their achievements and greatness. It represents external validation—public acknowledgment, fame, or success—shaped by how one’s actions and accomplishments are perceived by the world.

My journey to developing self-esteem and self-confidence has been somewhat unique. When I arrived in the United States, I started from scratch, relying entirely on myself and my abilities. To build my self-esteem and self-confidence, I applied my knowledge, talents, and understanding. Above all, my faith and spirituality provided me with a unique source of strength, allowing me to live with dignity, happiness, satisfaction, and peace of mind.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Born in Afghanistan and currently living in the United States, Sayed H. Rohani holds an MA in Education and a doctorate in ESL. As a playwright, he has published “Will-o’-the-Wisp” and “The Universal Players.” As a novelist, he has published “Into the Shadows, Into the Light”; “In Search of an Absconded Child”; “Peace is the Fruit of Justice, Hate the Seed of Prejudice”; and “Wedding in the Sandcastle.” As a nonfiction writer, he has published “The Interpretation of the Secret Letters of the Noble Quran”; “The Allegories of the Noble Quran”; “Predestination and Free Will”; and “The Building of an Ideal Family.” As a short story teller, he has published “Ibn Sina,” “The Woman Who Wished to be a Singer,” “Stoned to Death,” etc., as well as many children’s stories. His writings reflect social injustice, political corruption, and psychological dilemmas, focusing on aesthetic phenomena and universal qualities such as truth, justice, humanity, morality, freedom, beauty, and more.

There are two distinct types of values that guide our lives: transitory and eternal. Transitory values are those that are fleeting and tied to material or societal status. For example, being wealthy, fashionable, or holding a high rank may bring temporary recognition or satisfaction, but these attributes are ultimately impermanent. They fade with time or lose significance as circumstances change.

In contrast, eternal values transcend time and are rooted in actions that contribute to the greater good and align with enduring principles of morality and compassion. For instance, using one’s wealth to uplift the poor, support those in need, or champion noble social causes reflects eternal values. These actions leave a lasting impact, not only on the lives of others but also on one’s spiritual and moral legacy. By prioritizing eternal values, one sows seeds for eternal blessings, ensuring that their contributions resonate far beyond their lifetime.

I have just completed a nonfiction book, Spiders’ Golden House . The inspiration to create Spiders’ Golden House stemmed from a profound observation of a societal shift that increasingly overshadowed moral values and universal truths. This shift seemed to elevate falsehood and vanity to positions of prominence, eroding the foundational principles that guide human integrity and collective harmony. The metaphor of a spider’s golden house symbolizes the fragile yet deceptive allure of a world built on illusion and superficiality, contrasting sharply with the enduring strength of truth and virtue. The work aims to shed light on this troubling transformation, challenging readers to reflect on their values and the consequences of prioritizing appearance over substance.

Meanwhile, I am adding more stories to another book of mine, The Evergreen Roses of Wisdom, a masterpiece of 500 tales and maxims.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As a novelist, playwright, and essayist, my forte is to be first and foremost creative and original. I have always enjoyed creative pieces of literature, music, and art.

These points are included in my writing:

1 . My stories convey clear messages rooted in my own observations and experiences. For example, my book Into the Shadows, Into the Light revolves around four individuals whose actions and behaviors led to distinct consequences. One, who committed evil, lost his vision in an accident. The second, whose life was riddled with corruption, died suddenly of a heart attack, leaving behind a legacy burdened with sin. The third, who squandered his wealth, descended into madness. The fourth, a virtuous person, lived a life of success and prosperity, married a good woman, and raised conscientious and upright children.

2 . My writings are marked by originality and novelty. I explore topics that are unique and thought-provoking. For instance, I delve into themes such as The Law of Reciprocation, Crime Stoppers, Truth is the Ultimate Destiny of All Things, Reflections on the Two Ultimate Ends, Solar Children, and more.

3 . I tackle controversial subjects like Predestination and Free Will, Can Intelligence Triumph Over Evil?, and Will Wisdom and Intelligence Pursue the Same Goal?

4 . My works often focus on moral values, illustrating the consequences of good and bad actions. They show how virtuous behavior leads to positive success, while evil deeds result in ultimate failure, misery, and regret. For example, my book Spiders’ Golden House exemplifies this moral framework.

5 . Over the years, I have gained extensive experience in writing novels, plays, short stories, poetry, essays, and children’s literature. This broad exposure has enriched my work, allowing me to infuse it with diverse perspectives and knowledge. These experiences have seasoned my writing, making it both engaging and versatile.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The number one challenge I have been facing in my writing career has been marketing my books. Although I have allocated a certain fund to promote my books, to my regret, the marketers have been scammers who have defrauded me and their service has been little or nothing. However, I continue to challenge this obstacle until I succeed.
