Meet Scott Hanson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Scott Hanson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Scott, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I’m not sure if the feeling of being an imposter ever fully goes away. Each week and year brings new challenges that our team works through and grows from. What I’ve learned is that you and your team encounter issues and deal with them, hopefully in a productive way. As you continue to take on more challenges you learn from them and are able to adapt to future challenges and continue to grow. There are still times where I want to pull my hair out, but we’ve come this far so we can most likely figure this next issue out.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My wife and I started High Ride Cycle almost 8 years ago. Megan and her sister Lindsay received their Spin certification which sparked the idea to open a studio. We didn’t know how to open a business, but jumped in full force and opened our first location shortly after. The business itself has had it’s ups and downs, but the community of riders and our team have been a consistent area of positivity. It’s helped both of us push through any doubts and want to continue to grow. We now have three locations, and have an absolute powerhouse of a team. As we grow our team has become even more vital to keeping that community intact, and providing a welcoming and supportive environment across each location.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Working with your partner is not always the easiest, so we first needed to separate and define our roles. Megan, having the skills in marketing and teaching really took on the “front of the house” role. Myself, I enjoyed the finances and “boring” areas of the business so I took on the “back of house” duties. This definition of roles, both of which we enjoy, allows us to engross ourselves fully and continue to learn in our selective areas. We still provide each other feedback, but we own our respective areas of the business.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

There have been a number of people that have helped me throughout the years deal with challenges and grow. My parents shaped a large part of who I am today by providing examples of work ethic, morals, and being supportive. My partner, both in life and business, has been incredibly supportive throughout our journey with High Ride Cycle. Megan does not shy away from feedback which has helped me continue to grow and has challenged me to find different ways to deal with issues that arise. Her impact on me is the reason I am where I am today.
