We were lucky to catch up with Scott Rinaldi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Without doubt, I got my work ethic from my parents. I watched them work extremely hard to get what they wanted, putting in very long hours every day to provide for my brother and I and give us every advantage they didn’t have. They taught me the value of hard work as well as determination and it’s something that I’ve brought with me into my businesses.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a high fashion and editorial photographer I usually work with well know designers and fashion weeks, However recently I found myself focusing on working with emerging models, as well as emerging fashion, designers and brands. I find a certain amount of joy working with people who are trying to break into the fashion world and I feel like I can help build new talents and foster their growth as well as mentor them in this industry. I recently opened up my own photo studio in Anaheim California and am extremely excited to see the new opportunities that will come my way as well as the new designs and models I can help along their fashion journey!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
So the three things that I find most important this industry are passion, dedication, and punctuality. You have to be passionate about what you do otherwise it’s going to show in your photos. Every job you do you have to love, you have to put your all into it and you have to go headfirst into each job with as much enthusiasm and tenacity as possible
Without dedication in this industry, you’re going to have a very difficult time. You have to be dedicated to yourself, dedicated to your craft and dedicated to improving on a daily basis. Each day is a new learning opportunity and must be treated as such
Punctuality is something that many models or designers seem to have an issue with. For me It’s not only about being on time somewhere but it’s about showing respect to the person you’re working with it. Let them know that you are as serious as they are about what you’re about to do and what you’re about to create
My biggest piece of advice to anybody wanting to get into this industry is to take it as seriously as possible yes it’s a fun industry and filled with amazing opportunities. But always keep in mind the more love and dedication you put into your work the more it’s going to shine through in your photos and the more people are gonna wanna work with you again and again
We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
Personally, I think that there has to be a balance between the two. Yes, it’s very important to go all in on your strength and to lean into the things that you’re best at. If you stay within your wheelhouse, it will always make things a bit easier and a bit more enjoyable because you know that you will be able to produce exactly what is needed when it is needed. However, the downsides of that exist as well. If you only do what you’re good at and never push yourself to learn or progress, then you’re going to find yourself stagnant after a certain period of time. You need to push your creative talents you need to push the line. Nobody ever learns anything from this success is the only time they learn something is from their failures you do something wrong you learn how to do a better you come back and you do it better than you ever thought possible
