We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Scotty Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Scotty below.
Scotty, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
Sadly my generosity comes knowing what it feels like to not have it. I was born very poor and too often money is the hurdle too inclusion. Whether it was youth sports, summer trips, or music, participation came with a cost. Books, television and imagination were my escapes, but now that I somewhat have the means I try to be as generous as permitted.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a stand up comedian and actor. I recently wrote an produced a short film titled “My Brother’s Reaper.” The film is a drama designed to spark conversation about the definition of justice. The old adage “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter ” is sure to enter into thoughts of any person who view this film.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge are a constant thirst for knowledge over a variety of subjects, hours reading fiction from sci-fi to Clancy and working in the field of criminal justice put me in the middle of some stories that played on the news and later became books and movies themselves. My advice to others is to journal everything everyday.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When feeling overwhelmed I used the gunfighter motto, “slow down to speed up.” Although it sounds counter intuitive it works when you slow down your mind like using a slow aperture speed allows a camera to take in more light and therefore see more of the picture in front of you. Seeing more detail gives me more information to process and respond with confidence.
