How I Found My Purpose: A Journey of Confidence and Repair

My name is Sean Andrews, and I’m the owner of Esquire Repair LLC. Reflecting on how I found my purpose, I can pinpoint one exact moment that changed the course of my life. It wasn’t a series of epiphanies, but a single, transformative experience that gave me the confidence to walk the path I’m on today. Before I ventured into the world of electronics, I had no clue of my capabilities. But everything started to change when I made the decision to enroll at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology to study as an Electronic Technician. At the time, I wasn’t sure exactly where this would lead, but I knew I had a passion for technology and a desire to learn. I remember the day I found my purpose so clearly. It was in the middle of my training, when my instructor Mr. Carter called me to his desk for a task that would shape my future. The project! My very first cell phone repair, an iPhone 4. I remember feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness. I assumed my instructor would be right there, guiding me step-by-step as I worked through the repair. But instead, he did something unexpected—he stepped back and put his full faith in me. But there was something powerful in his belief in me, something that pushed me to move beyond my insecurities. I had no choice but to dive in and trust the skills I had learned. I worked on that iPhone 4 with focused attention, taking my time to carefully navigate through the steps. It took me about an hour and a half to finish, but the time wasn’t what mattered most to me—it was the feeling of accomplishment. I had done it. The repair was successful, and when I handed the phone back to my instructor he looked at me and gave me a handshake, saying, “I knew that you could do it.” That moment was when I truly found my purpose. It wasn’t just about fixing phones—it was about realizing that I had the ability to trust in my own skills and knowledge. I felt a sense of pride and fulfillment that I had never felt before. That handshake wasn’t just a sign of success in a single task; it was a moment of recognition that I was capable of more than I had ever believed.
That experience ignited a fire in me, and I knew I had found my calling. It wasn’t just about repairing phones—it was about the confidence that came with fixing things, with problem-solving, and with helping others. Over time, I turned this passion into Esquire Repair LLC, a business built on the foundation of trust, skill, and the belief that you can do more than you think. Looking back, I’m grateful for that moment and my instructor Mr. Carter unwavering belief in me. It showed me that sometimes, the key to finding your purpose isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about taking that first step, believing in yourself, and trusting that you’re capable of achieving more than you could ever imagine.

What makes this business so special to me is the satisfaction of knowing that I’ve truly helped someone. One of my favorite moments during any repair is when I get to say, “And the Lord said, ‘Let there be light,'” right before powering on a device. There’s something magical about fixing something that seemed broken, something that was written off as useless—and then seeing the joy on the customer’s face when they realize they can keep their device for a fraction of the cost of replacing it. I’m incredibly passionate about my business, and my number one goal is always to repair the device, not push for a new purchase. Many people don’t realize how much can be fixed with a little expertise and dedication, and I’m always striving to show them that saving money is just as important as having a fully functional device.I go above and beyond to ensure that every repair is done with precision and care, because at Esquire Repair LLC, we don’t just repair devices—we restore peace of mind. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, the three qualities that were most impactful in my success are confidence, problem-solving skills, and customer care.
Confidence: Early on, I wasn’t sure of my abilities, but as I pushed through those moments and trusted the training I received, my confidence grew. The moment I fixed that first iPhone 4 and received that handshake from my instructor was a turning point. Confidence is key when you’re taking on new challenges, and it builds over time. For anyone just starting out, I’d say, trust yourself. Even when things seem overwhelming, remember that every small step will lead to growth.

Problem-Solving Skills: At the heart of what I do is the ability to diagnose and fix issues. Whether it’s a cracked screen or a faulty device, being able to troubleshoot and figure out the root cause of a problem is essential. My advice to those starting out would be to embrace challenges. Every repair is an opportunity to learn something new. Take your time, be patient, and break down complex issues into smaller, manageable steps.

Customer Care: At Esquire Repair LLC, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. The genuine joy I get from helping others and the personal connections I’ve built over the years have been essential to my journey. My advice to those early in their journey is to always put the customer first. Be reliable, transparent, and empathetic. The relationships you build will not only help grow your business, but they’ll also keep you grounded in your purpose.

In summary, developing confidence, sharpening problem-solving abilities, and focusing on customer care are three essential qualities that will serve anyone well in their journey. My advice is to approach each day with a mindset of continuous improvement and to always stay connected to the reason why you started. With time, these skills will not only make you better at what you do, but will also guide you toward finding your true purpose.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

In the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been building a stronger and more loyal customer base, along with expanding my efforts in networking and moving toward mentoring the youth. As a business owner, I’ve always focused on providing exceptional service, but over the last year, I’ve been able to take that a step further by building deeper connections with my customers. This has been a game-changer for me, as it’s allowed me to create a community of loyal clients who not only return but also refer others, knowing that they can trust Esquire Repair LLC to provide the best service.
Additionally, I’ve become more focused on mentoring the youth. Having been through my own journey, I feel strongly about giving back and helping the younger generation understand that they have the power to create their own paths. I’m excited to see where this mentorship will take me and how I can help guide others as they explore careers in electronics or entrepreneurship. This new direction has brought a new sense of purpose to my work, and I look forward to expanding my role in the community as a mentor and role model.
In summary, the past year has been one of growth, not just in terms of expanding my customer base and business, but also in deepening my impact within the community. I’m excited to continue developing these areas and can’t wait to see where these efforts take me and the people I’m working to inspire.
