We recently connected with Sean Dunbar and have shared our conversation below.
Sean, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
In any field of work, one will encounter some form of adversity. Today, with social media being such a major aspect of life for almost everyone it is almost inevitable that you will encounter “haters”. When I was in High School I had a lot of people who hated what I was doing and simply made fun of me just because they could. For a little bit I was upset about this but it did not take very long for me to realize that these opinions of people who did not even know me did not matter. Personally, I believe that the word “hater” is overused way too much. It took some time, but I eventually realized that people speaking poorly about me, my craft, or both is something that I will always encounter no matter what I am doing. I honestly don’t have a long sad story of “haters” or anything like that. I just found that the thing that made me happiest was doing what I love, around people who I love. If people want to “hate” they can, if they want to support, then I will forever be grateful for them.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Sean Dunbar. I am originally from Franklin, Massachusetts but I now live in Nashville Tennessee. I am a songwriter and guitarist. As of right now, I am playing guitar for one of my best friends Caleb Mills. It has been an absolute blast playing with Caleb and the rest of the band throughout the past few months. Please feel free to check out Calebs website below to see if we are coming to a city near you!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I like to think of myself as a very outgoing person. Being outgoing has had such a positive effect on my career so far. I am not afraid to reach out to people online or shake new hands. The connections I have made because of this have helped aid my journey as a musician tremendously. Also, I have always worked well in teams. I played Ice Hockey for just about 14 years of my life. The lessons I learned from being on a team have helped me out a lot in my current career field. It is no doubt that being in a band requires a lot of communication. I have learned to use this to help build my relationships with my bandmates which has led us to having stronger band chemistry. I believe that spending time alone to learn new things that you love is super important. I learned literally everything I know about music through youtube and experience. I learned guitar on youtube. I learned how to record music on youtube, among many other things. This time alone, focused on learning, played a crucial role into getting me where I am today.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
There are not enough words in the world to describe how grateful I am for my parents. There is not one single moment that stood out for the rest. My parents have always consistently been there for me. There is not a single day that goes by that I don’t call my Mom and Dad at least three times. My parents have made endless sacrifices for both myself and the rest of my siblings to get us where we all are today. Without my parents I can 100% guarantee that I would not even be in this position of talking with you right now. The values and support that my parents have taught and given me are what I hope to someday pass on to children of my own.
