Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sean Jamieson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Sean with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from a deep love for the water and a passion for sharing meaningful experiences with others. It’s hard not to smile on a boat, and that feeling of peace and joy is something I’ve always wanted to pass along and radiates through my every day.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the founder and owner of The Gondola Company, based in the Coronado Cays, where we offer an authentically Venetian gondola cruise experience. For over 25 years, we’ve been taking guests on peaceful cruises through the scenic canals of Coronado.
What makes what we do so special is the atmosphere we create. There’s something timeless and calming about gliding through the water in a hand-crafted gondola. No matter the circumstance, our rides are all about slowing down and savoring the moment. It’s an experience that connects people.
As for what’s new, we’re always finding fresh ways to evolve while staying true to the heart of our brand. Most recently, we launched an exciting partnership with a fellow local business, Pure Bliss Picnics. Our guests can now enhance their gondola ride with a beautifully curated onboard picnic including the Mediterranean Picnic, the Elegant Charcuterie Board, and the Fruit & Dessert Picnic. We’ve also enhanced our seasonal offerings to make holidays even more memorable on the water. In October, guests can experience our unsettling “Haunting in Venice” cruise, complete with spooky gondoliers, eerie music and seasonal flair. During the winter months, we are also excited to welcome the return of our “Holiday Gondola Cruises” for the second year, with boats festively decorated in twinkling lights and seasonal music, plus cozy touches like gingerbread cookies and warm beverages. To round things out, we’ve refreshed our Mother’s Day and Father’s Day packages as well and are always looking to offer thoughtful upgrades and new details to our guests.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Passion – Passion has been the fuel that kept me going. Whether it was growing up on the water or discovering the magic of gondolas in Venice, loving what I do has made all the hard work feel worthwhile. Without passion, it’s easy to lose motivation when challenges come up.
Patience – Patience has been essential. Building a business doesn’t happen overnight. There were plenty of moments when progress felt slow, but staying patient and trusting the process made all the difference.
Willingness to Learn – Being open and willing to learn has allowed me to grow continuously. I learned from experts, traveled to Venice multiple times, and embraced feedback from my team and guests. Staying curious has helped me improve and adapt along the way.
For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to find what truly excites you and lean into that passion. Be patient with yourself and never stop learning. To lead a successful business and a happy life you need a balance of all of these, but it all starts with passion!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, we are definitely open to partnering and collaborating with other local businesses. We’re especially interested in connecting with wineries, distilleries, breweries, and other beverage-focused companies that want to offer their customers something truly special.
Imagine your members or guests enjoying a carefully curated tasting (whether it’s wine, craft beer, or artisan spirits) while cruising the serene waterways of the Coronado Cays aboard one of our beautiful private gondolas. Our Caorlina cruises, which comfortably accommodate up to 14 passengers, provide an intimate and picturesque setting that elevates any tasting event.
We’re eager to work with businesses that want to host regular events (monthly, quarterly, or seasonal tastings) aboard our gondolas so they can deepen their engagement with their community in a fresh and elegant way. We can offer special rates and collaborate closely to tailor the experience to their brand’s style and your guests’ preferences. All they would need to do is bring their expert sommelier, brewmaster, or distiller, along with their selection of drinks and guests, and we’ll handle the rest.
If any businesses are interested in partnering, please feel free to give us a call at 619-429-6317 or reach out to info@gondolacompany.com.
