Meet Sean Reagan

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sean Reagan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sean, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Being a creative I feel as if one’s resilience comes through the efforts of our project’s. Working with client’s we are able to mold and adapt as time goes on, and if you take notes then you’re able to overcome any given situation. I feel as if my resilience comes from my overwhelming desire to meet some pretty well known people, and go to many exotic places. It keeps me hungry for more. You always have to be hungry as a creative, always. You are the director of your own narrative in this life, it’s up to you to pave your own path. No one can do it for you, they can only help you get there in small steps. Shake hands, make connections, put in the work and great things are sure to come!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Professionally I’m working on building my connections and refining my craft even more (I feel as creatives we’re always doing that). I just recently shot a campaign for The National Corvette Museum, and have a number of other exciting gigs down the line that I can’t speak on yet. I do my best to give back in many ways. My most loved nonprofit is The Hadley Jo Foundation. The foundation supports Hadley Jo, a 9 year old little girl with a rare genetic disease (only 20 known people in the world have it). Hadley was diagnosed when she was very young, and in short her ankles keep shrinking and she has to use a wheelchair and other methods in order to stand and move around. I’ve been looking into the idea of moving to Birmingham, AL.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Learn all of the creative aspects of photo / video that you can… the rest will come. If you don’t know your creative it will show and you don’t want that. Learn lighting, set building, and production positions and lingo and how to get where you want.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
If I had to say one answer I’d say stick to what you know and what you can make a step and repeat process. However, I will say that a lot of companies want a well rounded creative and one that is skilled in photo, video, and more creative outlets.
