We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Seanna Harris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Seanna, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
When I exude confidence I am in harmony with my truest self. Once I understood intuition as my internal compass, I felt more connected to myself. This is a quality I continue to hone.
When I feel the most aligned, confidence seems to flow naturally and generously. I begin to notice synchronicities or parallels within my own universe and my immediate surroundings. Assured that I am in the right place, a certain sense of trust washes over me.
Additionally, confidence can be directly tied to safety. Having a sturdy support system is crucial. When I feel safe to be myself, my confidence shines. Self esteem can be threatened and eclipsed in moments where we do not feel safe. Often, the best place to be is with those who we share a mutual respect, love and admiration for. The people I surround myself with bring out the best in me, highlighting my strengths.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Seanna is an interdisciplinary artist and designer based in Long Beach, California. She earned her bachelors of art in printmaking at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, she has long been intrigued by forms of underwater life; an affinity that has driven her recent work as well as grounded her mission into the future. As an environmental advocate, she believes art can only enhance interest and support for the issues that demand our attention. She has also gone on to found VibrantSea, a design studio and artist collective aiming to recenter contemporary artists and creatives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I feel like my true journey is just
beginning. These were some of the most important revelations I’ve had thus far:
Always stick up for yourself. Especially in professional settings, people may undermine your worth or intelligence. Knowing how or when to set boundaries may be challenging at first, but will always be in your best interest.
Lead with integrity. If you have stayed true to your morals and values, it is easier to identify what you deserve and contest when that isn’t met.
By extension, never settle for less than you deserve. You ultimately determine your worth.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am seeking artists and designers who would like to be involved in a creative collective. Aiming to recenter creatives, gain broader exposure, and ultimately build a community. I’ve come to the conclusion that we need to fashion a replacement for the defunct gallery institutions that no longer serve us, the new generation of contemporary artists and creators.
