We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Seaven a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Seaven , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by simply living life. When I do run into a creative block I just take a step back and breathe , and take a break. Like go experience life … go out , chill, maybe even party until I get the vision back in me. Life is really my biggest muse when I am creating , I wouldn’t have much to write about if I didn’t go so many places and experience so much life.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I always have a hard time telling people I make music. Because for a long time it was something I kept to myself to pass the time. But as of recent I have really stepped into my artistry and really reaped the satisfaction of living my truth. It’s fun as hell honestly, to hear your own music being played by people that you don’t know at all. And I have enjoyed it The love and support I get makes everything easier , from the process of making/ selecting beats , writing , and just putting together an idea.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Honestly just the ability and my knack for writing is what got me to where I am. I started off with poetry at a young age and that skill and passion has really aided me in my music journey. Knowing how to network and talk to people is also very important in this field , you don’t have to be the most outgoing person but carrying a conversation will get you into places that being quiet won’t , so I always preach networking and making genuine friends & connections, but I’ve always been a talkative guy so it just works. And another quality I possess is patience, my patience has allowed me to be able to sit with certain concepts and ideas within my music and get a understanding of what it is I want to make and convey , and I am very blessed to have a quality as such.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
My current challenge is time and money, with most creators we always need time to perfect the idea sitting in our brains. But a lot of my time is spent hustling and working. I am excited for the day I can combine my art with monetary gain , that way I can fully dedicate all my time to my craft.
