We were lucky to catch up with Sebastian Jose Gomeznolasco Mendoza recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Sebastian Jose with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Since I was 15 years old my extracurricular activities started to look different than the traditional ones. Instead of only going to soccer practice on the evening my mom was taking 1hr car rides taking me to a Diploma in entrepreneurship. Spending my evenings studying and crafting an organization discovering the business life in a lot of aspects. First with an ONG, then painting phone cases that then was transformed into a clothing brand and then a vibrant curiosity and love to talk and ask questions that turned into the podcast I do and manage now.
Since I remember I have spent my years trying to outwork the guys that had been longer in the game than me. When I started playing golf I would put extra hours just for my game to grow faster to reach the level my friends already had, because I started later than them. Since 6-7 years I have slept at 1-2am working extra hours and time to push harder and faster whatever I was or I have been building.
My work ethic is definitively not for anyone and harder, my sleep schedule and “balance” is ridiculously bad but I manage to have a center and don’t shift it that much so it becomes counterproductive. I have been putting the extra hours and repetitions to everything since I remember and instead of work ethic of schedule it’s being more like a religion. A religion of giving my projects and life my 100%, and never leave anything behind. If I have 5 contacts to make a podcast I’ll text 5 of them and not wait for the right moment because it might never happen so just try to create it every time with each opportunity until now with the podcast we can inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
In the last 4 years we have been finding the best actual and emerging stories to inspire the next generation of creators, CEO’s, entrepreneurs by showing the behind the scenes stories of professionals of different industries like arts, sports, diplomats, technology, academia, etc.
In the Podcast we have showcased as emerging talent like consolidated, to show the real challenges of building something worth lasting and worth telling someone.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Discipline 100%, Grit, obsession.
Every person we have interviewed had started by passion but that motivations doesn’t last too long if you don’t have discipline. And to build discipline you have to be obsessed with your final goal. And grit has to be there because showing up when you don’t feel like it is the most important part of the process of growing.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Probably Outliers of Malcolm Gladwell. Is a book I gist or share with anyone that wants to see why people is successful and why others don’t. What do they have in common? Sometimes the circumstances can help increase the possibility but not always determine that’s going to happen. In this book you can see the different “musts” each outlier has. And there is no single route to success. Someone can hit a home run in their first try and someone in their 199th. There is no right and only way to be successful, every path is different.
