Meet Sedrick Cole Jr.

We recently connected with Sedrick Cole Jr. and have shared our conversation below.

Sedrick , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Have you ever hit rock bottom ? Has life ever beat you down to your knees while at the same time taking your ability to breathe ? Have you ever experienced heartbreak, betrayal, and or mistreatment from those you love ? I most definitely can relate ! The struggles I’ve experienced in life built my tolerance to endure every hardship that presents itself. I found that a high pain tolerance isn’t enough to overcome intense trials and tribulations. Ultimately my unwavering faith in Jesus Christ has produced true resilience in my life. God has helped me through every storm, test, and battle. Jesus is literally the answer! One of my favorite scriptures is “the present sufferings of this current time are not worthy to be compared to the Glory that will be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18). All can agree suffering isn’t pleasant. Suffering is painful and
affects more than just the person experiencing it. When I’m looking at life through the lens of God, nothing is impossible to overcome. God promised not to leave me nor forsake me. With Christ on our side we’re indestructible!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Professionally I focus on serving the vision of my local church and community out reach events. At church I assist in building the next generation of young men. We teach them important skills like emotional intelligence, self-esteem, dealing with bullying, and so much more. Our workshops have helped in their development which leads to success at school, at home, and their community. I use my God given gift of music and performance at outreach events to uplift all who I come in contact with. All I want is for God to be glorified and for Jesus to use me to help someone else ! My artist name is Coleboy Sedro, it’s a play on my real name. Search my artist name on YouTube, Apple Music, and or Spotify to support my music.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

In my journey I’ve struggled with the opinions of others, humbling myself, and trusting God. Once I learned these keys, my challenges became stepping stones. For those who are early in their journey, my advice to you is don’t allow opinion of others to distract your focus. We live in a society where a lot of us have to build our lives with judgmental eyes observing us. I’ve learned that if I lose tunnel vision of the mission, I can easily get off track. Secondly, yield to wise council. Respect those who have experience in your trade or gift and take heed to their instruction. Humility is the key to increase. God resist the proud but exalts the humble. Lastly, pray for God to direct your steps and apply the word of God to your life. A righteous man steps are ordered by the Lord, allow Jesus to be Lord over your decision making!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed my outlet is prayer, listening to uplifting music (usually worship), and disconnecting from the noise. By noise I mean social media, negativity, and whatever else that can negatively affect my mental health. I also have an amazing wife who I can trust with my heart. Our intimate conversations always bring peace. It’s a joy having someone who loves you for you. My advice is to find a formula that works for you. Sometimes I go for walks and relax at my favorite park to clear my mind. Whatever you do make sure to add prayer into the formula. Prayer is powerful and God wants us to come to him when we are overwhelmed.
