Meet Selena Aguirre

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Selena Aguirre a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Selena, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my faith in God and my knowing that God works all things for the good of those who love him. Through his unconditional love I have always found the strength to keep going despite challenges, setbacks, or no’s.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

The idea of Tone’s Ties by Selena was first created summer of 2018 in my grandmother’s basement. People always ask where I came up with my business name and I am always proud to say I made it in memory of my late Father Antonio “Tone” aka one of my biggest fans! We thought what better way to keep his memory alive while helping us find purpose in the pain with each design. Since then there has been many ups and downs, opened doors and closed doors.. but wow has it been a beautiful ride.

We offer handmade bow ties, neck ties, ascot ties, pocket squares and lapel pins. We specialize in custom wedding packages which can include ties of any kind for the groom/groomsmen/ring bearer , pocket squares, lapel pins, headband/bow for flower girl, garter for the bride as well as a custom ring bearer pillow. (Pricing varies on what you select, for consults email Tonesties39@gmail.com)

Tone’s Ties by Selena has recently released our NEW women tie designs for added touch to any business look!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

To be a entrepreneur I believe it is KEY to have patience, especially when you are first starting out you have to understand it takes time to build a brand, a lot of long nights and early mornings, naysayers and definitely tears but remember its okay and that is all part of the process!

Along with patience you have to have faith knowing that each seed you plant has a different blooming date, even when it feels like you have been waiting forever just TRUST God’s timing and keep working faithfully.

Always be teachable, you can never gain enough knowledge.

Lastly be CONFIDENT! Walk and talk like you know you will be successful and soon enough you will end up in places you never even imagined!! Just take it one day at a time.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

When it comes to people who have guided me, taught me, and encouraged me I have many to give thanks to.

My grandma Sandy has been one of my greatest teachers when it comes to business and how it should be ran. She’s has taught me many things including how important it is to be early, organized, and prepared. I wouldn’t be who I am without her guidance. I am truly grateful.

I have to thank Keisha Howe for believing in me and helping Tone’s Ties by Selena find support in Charlotte, Mi . Her constant encouragement and eagerness to help me grow and see me win will NEVER be forgotten. I will forever be grateful for Keisha Howe and her shop Reflections Boutique.

Lastly I’d like to give credit to my collaborative partner Aondray Worthy owner of WalkWorthy Menswear, from the moment I got the opportunity to meet with Mr. Worthy he has been kind, knowledgeable, and encouraging. Since we are in the same field of work he has been able to teach me things I haven’t yet learned , give feedback when needed, pushed my comfort zone by encouraging me to expand my designs and has brought me many new clients over this last year. I will forever be grateful for the continuous support and opportunities he has given me.
