Meet Selena Misciagno

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Selena Misciagno. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Selena below.

Hi Selena, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I believe our purpose is something that is predestined in our lives from God, but the challenging part is discovering it for ourselves. I also don’t think we are all meant to solely have one purpose on this planet, we learn and grow throughout life to find new purposes. The most impactful item that helped me was trying different avenues and saying “yes” to as many opportunities that came along in my late teenage years and early 20’s. This allowed me to learn new skills and eventually discover my career path as an entrepreneur and registered nurse.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Most of my career development grew in my late teenage years when I found several professional mentors. I was exposed to the event industry at the age of 16 assisting with community events for nonprofit organizations. Through my professional mentors, I learned how to coordinate weddings while pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. This experience taught me a great deal of leadership, organization, and client care. After several years of event experience, my team launched Crystal Event Rentals & Design. We spent several years building a foundation to provide clients with beautiful event rentals for their big day. Our expertise began with weddings and we have grown to serve a larger scale of clientele catering to other events.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The first quality that had the greatest impact on my development is eagerness to learn new skills. This was a trait that not only opened up many professional doors but also contributed to the greatest personal growth. I would describe leadership as being another quality that has greatly impacted my journey. The best way I learned to be a leader was by acquiring knowledge from leaders that I have great respect for. Communication is another area that I continuously strive to learn, it is a skill that not many of us are taught growing up. Learning to communicate effectively with others play such a crucial role in professional development.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Feeling overwhelmed is not an abstract thought in my daily life. As a full-time registered nurse and business owner, there are many things that can contribute to feeling overwhelmed. Having a work life balance has been a massive game changer over the past year. It started with prioritization and understanding what tasks or situations deserve your energy at that moment in time. When I feel overwhelmed, the first thing I move to is quiet time alone. I use this time to pray and sit with my thoughts to better understand what is causing the feeling and what I can do in that movement to make the situation a little bit better.
