We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Selena Nimchan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Selena, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I think I’ve always been a pretty creative person. I live to problem solve, and most of the time, problem solving involves finding creative solutions. When my daughter was diagnosed with the “trifecta” (allergies, eczema and asthma), I was determined to find solutions for some of her issues that didn’t involve the constant use of prescription medications. That was the brainchild that led to my company Bathe being born.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I consider myself a “jack of all trades;” I do a little bit of everything. I have a full-time job that I absolutely love; I am an entrepreneur; and I have my hands in multiple pots. I’m looking to expand my horizons in 2024. The past few years, I have had a few personal setbacks and became a bit complacent in my life; I’m looking forward to changing that and stepping out of the box I’ve created. I truly believe that you can’t grow if you don’t branch out. This year I’m planning on stretching myself to achieve new goals.
I am super excited about the outlook of my company. I plan to develop new products and do a little more philanthropic work. I will have two new product launches this year that will have fun prizes and games associated with them. What to know when/what they are? You’ll have to follow me on @rethinkyourbath to find out
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I would say the 3 qualities that helped me the most were perseverance, positivity, and passion. Yes, all 3 are “p” words.
You have to have a passion for what you plan to do long term. If not, you will develop burn out and won’t put your best foot forward to provide people with a top tier experience from you.
Of course, you have to be positive. No one, and I mean NO ONE, wants to spend time with a constantly negative person. You may get a few people to listen/follow you for a little while, but that type of energy will not provide you with a quality audience.
Next is perseverance. When you’re just starting out and sometimes for YEARS afterwards, you’ll feel like you’re begging people to give you a chance. Don’t stop. Keep promoting those wins, even small ones.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I welcome the opportunity to have a mutual collaboration with other business or like-minded people. As I stated earlier, this year I’m looking to branch out more. I would love to work with people that may need swag bags for events, other beauty brands, spa owners, etc.
For more information, please email me at [email protected]. Make sure to put “Collaboration Request” in the subject line.
