Meet Selena Parsley

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Selena Parsley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Selena , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

A strong sense of self. Being brave enough to stand out from the crowd at an early age. Seeing the vision I have for myself and knowing I have the willpower to create whatever I want.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Rosewood Enchantikal Cottage is an Apothecary Art House Cottage Boutique. I make herbal enchantments to inspire love, beauty, abundance and healing for everyday life. I wanted to create a shop that didn’t look and feel ordinary or predictable. I wanted to create a place of enchantment that allows people to have a sense of escapism while they are visiting. I wanted to create a home sweet cottage vibe. I started out in the wellness industry as a massage therapist. It’s important for me to create spaces and products that help alleviate anxiety and inspire beauty and creativity. I also teach workshops to help people on their spiritual paths. We have been closed for the Summer season, but we are excited to re-open October 18th. I make handcrafted candles, soaps, perfume oils, teas and one of a kind gifts. I showcase other artists and visionaries in Houston. I work with a few vendors who share the same love for originality and creativity.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. The ability to not conform. To not be a follower and to be a free-thinker.

2. To be bold enough to express my offbeat creativity. To create & inspire original enchantments. Sometimes people will imitate or copy what I do. Since entering my crone years, instead of being frustrated about being copied, I take it as a victorious compliment. While they are doing what I have already done, I am off coming up with my next new original idea. It’s better to be noticed and copied than to be overlooked.

3. Willpower and determination to take my thyme to create what I want. I am not in a race with anyone. I am too focused on my own goals and endeavors. I am my own muse.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I am feeling overwhelmed, I unplug and take care of myself just like I would a client. I use aromatherapy, massage, meditation, journaling. I take thyme to be quiet and be still. I give myself breathing room. I allow myself to feel all of my feelings and then I move forward with a fresh vision after taking care of my inner word.
