We recently connected with Celena and have shared our conversation below.
Celena, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism is deeply rooted in my natural disposition and upbringing, where I was encouraged to see challenges as opportunities for growth. Additionally, my faith provides a solid foundation, instilling hope and purpose in my journey. I’m mindful of the content I consume, actively choosing positivity through books, articles, and media. Positive affirmations are a daily practice, reinforcing a can-do attitude. Music serves as a constant mood-lifter, and I use visualization techniques to picture success. My environment, both physical and social, plays a pivotal role, and I make conscious choices to surround myself with positivity. Overall, my optimism is a result of the synergy between my innate wiring, faith, mindful content consumption, affirmations, music, visualization, and a positive environment.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a passionate and non-traditional yoga instructor when it comes to how I teach. I’m on a mission to inspire wellness, movement, and sensuality in every class. What sets my approach apart is the fusion of these elements, creating a unique and holistic experience for my students.
In my monthly yoga classes, I aim to cultivate not just physical strength and flexibility but also a deeper connection with oneself emotionally. We delve into the realms of movement, exploring the beauty of the body’s capabilities, and embracing sensuality as a powerful aspect of self-discovery.
What’s particularly exciting about my classes is the emphasis on overall well-being. It’s not just about the poses; it’s about creating a space where mind, body, and spirit harmonize. The sessions are designed to be more than just a workout – they are a journey towards self-love and expression. I also center my classes around black women because when it comes to us expressing our sensuality through movement/dance or any type of form it often gets ridiculed so I also aim to have spaces centered for us.
But that’s not all! Later this year, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be launching my graphic design and editing business. This venture is an extension of my commitment to creativity and aesthetics. I believe in the power of visual storytelling, and through my graphic design services, I aim to help businesses and individuals bring their visions to life.
So just stay tuned in for more exciting events, launches, and the expansion of my offerings. As I embark on this continued and refined chapter, I’m excited to continue spreading uniqueness, creativity, and well-being.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities and skills that were the most impactful on this journey that I’m still on:
-Adaptability has been crucial. The ability to navigate new situations and challenges has allowed me to evolve with the twists and turns of my journey. I’ve learned to embrace change with an open mind, seeking diverse experiences and stepping out of my comfort zone. The more I expose myself to different situations, the more adaptable I become.
-A growth mindset has been a driving force. It’s the belief that abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. This mindset has fueled my continuous learning and improvement. I approach challenges as opportunities to learn, viewing failures as stepping stones to success. Actively seeking feedback and investing in personal and professional development has been key to nurturing a growth mindset.
-Resilience has been a cornerstone in overcoming setbacks. I’ve learned to bounce back from challenges and stay focused on my goals. Understanding that setbacks are a natural part of any journey, I use them as learning experiences. Building coping mechanisms, maintaining a positive perspective, and having a support network in place have all contributed to developing and strengthening resilience.
My advice to those who want to improve in these areas is firstly, to stay curious. Cultivate a genuine curiosity about the world around you, ask questions, and be open to learning from every experience. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Surround yourself with mentors and peers who inspire and support you. Regular reflection is important — understand what worked well, what didn’t, and why. Celebrate small wins, acknowledge your achievements, and boost your confidence. Lastly, adaptability is a strength, so embrace change as a constant, and learn from failures, seeing them as valuable teachers on the journey to success.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When the overwhelming waves hit, I first turn to some deep breathing. Taking a moment to be in solitude and focus on deep, intentional breaths helps ground me and brings a sense of calm to the storm. Additionally, I find solace in engaging in physical activity, whether it’s a quick walk, a few yoga stretches, or a quick dance around the room. Movement not only releases tension but also provides a mental break, allowing me to return with a clearer perspective. Finally, I embrace the power of prioritization. Breaking down tasks into manageable chunks and tackling them one step at a time helps me regain a sense of control.
This strategic approach, combined with a dose of music, humor, and self-compassion, proves to be a formidable antidote for me. The approach can vary depending on the day sometimes a good rest does a girl well also.
