Meet Seoryung Park

We were lucky to catch up with Seoryung Park recently and have shared our conversation below.

Seoryung, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Finding my purpose has definitely been a long journey. After I graduated with my undergraduate degree—a goal I had dreamed of since I was a kid—I actually felt a little lost. I always knew I wanted to do something creative, but it took me some time to figure out what that really meant for me.

It wasn’t until I started teaching while also focusing on my own art that things began to click. Through teaching, I discovered how much joy I get from helping others and being part of a community. And through making art, I found a different kind of fulfillment—a quiet, reflective space where I could deeply connect with myself.

I realized that both parts are essential to who I am. Teaching and art-making balance and inform each other, and together they give my life purpose. Of course, I know this journey isn’t over—I’m still learning, growing, and striving to become a better educator, artist, and person along the way.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’ve been teaching in the Digital Technology and Culture department at Washington State University for three years now. One of my long-time dreams was to start a design agency, and earlier this year that dream became a reality. Along with a colleague—who’s both a close friend and an excellent educator—I co-founded a student- and faculty-run design agency called Club Studio Inc.

Because we’re in a small town, many departments and local businesses aren’t familiar with what design can offer. With a small but incredibly talented group of student designers, we’ve been able to support the community by providing pro-bono design solutions to their visual communication challenges. We definitely stumbled here and there in the beginning, but watching the students grow so much over the year has been incredibly rewarding.

This kind of hands-on, real-world experience is exactly what I hope to bring more of into my classes. I don’t see school as a place where students just come and go—it should be a meaningful environment where they can take risks, learn from failures, and grow alongside others. That’s the vision my co-founder and I share for Club Studio Inc.: creating a safe, supportive space where students can challenge themselves, gain confidence, and step into their future careers with real experience behind them.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My perspectives definitely shift as I get older, but there are a few core values that have stayed with me and still feel essential to who I am.

The first is the importance of craftsmanship. I talk about this constantly with my students, because as we move deeper into an AI-driven world, the value of human craft can easily be overlooked. But to me, craftsmanship is at the heart of art-making—it’s where intention, care, and identity live.

The second value builds on that: dedication. I really believe in the power of practice and self-discipline—what I often tell myself is, “Sweat doesn’t regret.” Putting in the effort, even when it’s hard, always pays off in some form.

And the third value is appreciating my roots—culturally, linguistically, and spiritually. Being an artist is not an easy path, and whenever I hit a creative block or go through a difficult moment, grounding myself in where I come from helps me reconnect and move forward.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

As I mentioned earlier, Club Studio Inc. is always open to taking on new design and branding projects—whether that’s through collaborations with professionals or commissioned work. We especially enjoy partnering with rural or smaller communities, because those areas often don’t have easy access to creative resources or design support the way larger cities do.

Connecting with us is simple. You can send us a direct message on Instagram at @clubstudio.inc, or reach out by email to either of the Creative Directors—myself at [email protected]
or my co-director at [email protected]
. We’re always happy to talk and explore new opportunities.
