Meet Septimius The Great

We recently connected with Septimius The Great and have shared our conversation below.

Septimius, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Growing up as a only child in a single family home of an functioning alcoholic mother, I had a lot of time to think, imagine and dream. My personality was big but only to people that I knew or became comfortable around. As I grew older, I had no reference to fear and no limits to curiosity, which allowed me to come out of my shell and explore. I remember my high schools years the most because was there that I began to flourish and shape my curiosity. Fast forward to recent times, I created a brand: Music Artist, Actor, Model and Entertainer – Septimius The Great. This brand/character/image, allowed me the confidence to be different, inspiring, and creative. Entering in the world of arts & entertainment is scary but exciting – show people love you and some people hate you. I used that feeling of being scared to be bold and different. When I enter a room and there no one like me, I feel fearless and want people to question, second guest or even turn away from me. But using my past as a loner and dreamer, I’m able to educate people on who I am thru entertainment. It’s the great feeling of self worth when people who shy away from you then become intrigued by you (of course it doesn’t work on everyone, LOL). I represent the energy and light of a person that changed they way they thought or felt and opened the eyes, ears and mind to experience the unknown. For these reasons – I love to be in a room that no one looks, sound, or dress like me because I say to myself “It’s Showtime !”

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a self taught and self created – music artist, actor, model and entertainer. It’s an exciting life to me because after experiencing a relationship breakup, I used my energy to fix myself and recreate myself into a new version of me. It’s been 12 years of evolution which has acquired many accomplishments such as a: Grammy Winner for a collaboration on the Best Reggae Album and also a Grammy nomination for collaboration on the The Dance Music Album along with 19 Independent music awards, 7 radio music awards, national contestant on “America’s Got Talent”, music played on such tv shows like “Empire” and “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills”, and recently Lead actor roles in 4 upcoming films for Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. My next music project will some music single releases that will then complete and release my sophomore album “Septimius 2.0”. My next acting project Severus: The Black Caesar to be released with a the lead actor as Septimius Severus the first African roman empire that ruled the roman empire in 193 AD. Along with still performing on music, fashion and theater stages all over the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three Qualities: No Fear of failure
Being Creative and Imaginative
Turning No into Yes thru learning

Advice:
Never let the unknow/fear block your curiosity to explore and dream
Think outside the box and see where your mind and passion takes you
When you here someone tell you no, then learn how to get them to say yes.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Collaborations are key to success. A collaboration is a relationship and is required to advance, learn, creative and grow. I love to fuse cultures, languages, people, beliefs, history, and ideas into every creation that I make whether it be music, TV/Film, Modeling or Educating. This is why I look up to: Will.I.Am, Berry Gordy, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna because they are fearless visionary that don’t mind pushing the envelope to teach and grow thru entertainment.
