Meet Serena Jacob

We were lucky to catch up with Serena Jacob recently and have shared our conversation below.

Serena, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I believe that my resilience comes from doing something that I am passionate about. It is also very rewarding to see the services I provide bring joy to others. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful and our skills allow people to experience changes that go beyond what they can do for themselves.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I started providing services to the Longmont community in 2006. I worked as a dental assistant and during my 15 year tenure, I became the office manager. Although I enjoyed working in the dental industry, I always felt that something was missing. In 2020, I decided to go back to school to become an esthetician. I instantly fell in love with the services that we learned and knew that it was time to change careers. Initially, I did not plan on opening my own business, but the Lash and Company culture grew on me during my time taking classes at their education facility. They were offering franchises and I decided to take the leap.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe the three most important qualities are courage, confidence, and determination. I may have had a different answer before I changed my career path and opened a business, but the last three years have proven that those are the needed qualities to succeed in this industry. No person knows how to open their first business and make it successful. It is very challenging and requires constant adaptation and flexibility. Suddenly you are outside of your comfort zone and both your staff and your clients directly affect your successes and failures. The services that we provide also bring a wide array of challenges. Every person’s skin is different, which means none of the services are an exact science. It is scary to learn to perform injectables and requires a great deal of trust from the clients. This is where the courage and confidence comes in. You have to learn to do things you are not comfortable with in order to gain the needed experience to provide safe services that produce beautiful results.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone looking to improve their skin health and willing to take a chance and put their trust into our services. It is an esthetician’s responsibility to provide their clients with honest feedback and only offer services that are safe. The goal is to build a forever relationship with the client so that they not only feel safe and comfortable, but they see the results they are looking for which creates more confidence for them.
