We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Serena Sacks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Serena, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Because of the challenges I had in my early years, I became strong, driven, and resilient. Some of it came from a need to succeed on my own terms, some out of fear of failure, and a bit of proving energy that I’m not proud of. I shifted much of this strength from fear to purpose when I began working in Educational technology 15 years ago.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m focusing on leveraging technology to personalize and accelerate student learning. I love helping education leaders use GAI safely and effectively to free up time for more direct interactions that build durable, human skills.
Personally I am taking care of my daughters, mother, and siblings through their challenges and triumphs.
My husband and I are building our dream house in a lake in TN.
You can read my whole story in my book: Empowered. Frame your narrative. Own your Power.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Education, Resilience, persistence, empathy, purpose, leadership, care taking.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Authors I read, learn from and follow are Brene Brown, Adam Grant, Patrick Lencioni, Michael Horn, and Simon Sinek.
They share self management, empathy, deep understanding, leadership, and wisdom. Michael Horn is an education transformation expert.
