We recently connected with Sergio Balderas and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sergio, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My family grew up with a humble mindset. You can say we did not have much to offer but we never starved either thanks to the sacrifices of my parents. Seeing struggle at an early age of life helped me appreciate the value of things more. I understand the need for things to get through the daily life, so if there is an opportunity to give back then I will in any way that I can. Might be cliche, but it becomes a golden rule of treating others the way you want to be treated.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Becoming a photographer was one of many milestones I was able to achieve within a year. My skills ventured to become a videographer and with me co founding a production company, I devoloped a niche to create great shots with a cinematic touch. I would love for anyone on the other side of my camera to have their minds blown with the magic they help me create!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
A few qualities I have learned in the industry is to have the third eye to see potential of what an image can turn out to. I can make anything work and with some editing software, I can make a regular beach photo into a magazine cover or cinematic promotion. With that being said my attention to detail has to be on par. I always clean up my models images with any blemishes, any wardrobe malfunction, or anything I need to edit from lighting to removing objects from the background.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I was able to be introduced into the industry thanks to the one and only Javan Plummer who would mutually benefit with my photography. I needed somewhere to start and he needed photos. With each photoshoot, my work improved. Javan was able to work in fashion shows and introduced me to models who needed a photographer with a special touch. My clientele grew, my skills were now on a professional level. Javan gifted me with my first real camera and even made a website to kickstart my career. Because of him, I was able to be a traveling photographer and even made my way to the 2024 Oscars event in Los Angeles! If it wasn’t for Javan, I would never have imagined being a Published Celebrity Photographer.
