Meet Sergio Villanueva

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sergio Villanueva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sergio below.

Sergio, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I think about where I come from and all I have went through. When I have feel reluctance to do my job, I think if I wasn’t afraid of taking that risk or that situation, there is no reason to fear doing my job. I have my affirmations, my goals, that are written out and I look at those every morning. That is what keeps me going. Some people I know or knew will never have an opportunity to chase their goals, so it wouldn’t feel right to not keep pursuing my goals.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Sergio Villanueva with Brookstone Realtors LLC. I am born and raised in Detroit Michigan. I am a father of 3 boys, Sergio Jr., Enzo, and Sahai. I moved to Grand Rapids when I was 16 years old and recently moved back to the metro Detroit area. My mother had me when she was 17 years old, we always joke about us growing up together in a way. I haven’t always made the best life choices and I have paid for those bad decisions. Now in my professional career as a Realtor, my focus is to always provide the best service, not only meet expectations but to exceed my clients’ expectations. I would love to give back to my community by educating about the importance of home ownership. It is my goal in life to help as many people as I can with one of the biggest transactions of their life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

One of the best qualities to have is being able to listen to understand. It is very important when someone is talking to you, to listen to understand and help solve a problem they may have. In this business communication skills and emotional intelligence are key. You have to know the law and everything concerning real estate. I love reading about all of these things I just spoke. Reading has helped me develop in a way that has changed my life. Not only read but also take notes and always come back to your notes. Find your life purpose, be the captain of your ship with a map to reach your destination.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

The Bible. The Bible has changed my life. Some of life’s most simple principles I was not living by. Treating others the way you want to be treated. You reap what you sow, whatever you put in is what you will get out. If you plant bad seed you will grow poison, if you plant good seed you will grow fruits. Every great book I have ever read has brought me back to the Bible.
