Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Seth Boyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Seth, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
As an actor, it is not uncommon to experience imposter syndrome. This industry hardwires you to compare yourself to others, and most of the time those other people look like they are having success. The key to this is to realize that everybody starts somewhere, and to trust your progress and work ethic. Focusing on authenticity and being diligent made me overcome this issue, and it has paid off. The only person you can compare yourself to is your past self. When I booked a co star role on NBC’s Chicago Fire, I remember looking at the mirror in my trailer realizing that I deserve to be in this industry, and if it wasn’t for patience and hard work I would have never experienced that feeling.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an actor, and a social media influencer. When I type out social media influencer, it feels a little surreal to read, but knowing that I have impacted local businesses with my content is also a surreal feeling. I have generated over 20 million views across all platforms, and gained over 100 thousand followers along the way. What started as a hobby ended me up in a position that as impacted hundreds of local restaurants, and this is only the beginning! As far as acting, I took a leap of faith hopping into this industry in college, and I fell in love with the art. From feature films like Final Summer, to network TV shows like Chicago Fire, it has been a wild ride that I will not jump off of for the rest of my life. You can keep up with my career and content on all social medias under @imsethboyer , and also keep up with my acting credits on IMDb.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The first is diligence. Always striving to learn, and not being afraid to take notes from anyone in the building. The second is authenticity. It’s easy to want to put on a front for other people, especially when you are putting yourself on the internet or auditioning in front of casting directors. But the ones who can remain authentic when all eyes are on you, are the ones that stand out. The third is patience, which is the hardest one to follow in my opinion. If you are always putting yourself in positions to learn and continuously being yourself in the process, all you need is patience before everything falls into place.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for new people to meet and collaborate with. Whether it’s local restaurants, food content creators on the internet, or other actors/directors that have fun projects in mind, I always am looking for the next artist to create with! I am local to Illinois, and you can find me on all social medias under @imsethboyer or Seth Boyer on IMDb.
