Meet Seth Broussard

We recently connected with Seth Broussard and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Seth, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I started out doing photography and videography for fun. Eventually people started recognizing my work and requesting to hire me for various types of jobs. For the longest time I felt a sense of imposter syndrome and didn’t really view myself as a “photographer” or a “videographer”, but rather a guy who knows how to operate a camera. After a few gigs, I started to notice my work improve and that is when my confidence started to develop. Once I leaned into the fact that I AM a photographer & videographer and really embracing the title, things started to flow much better. I started networking more and promoting my services and because of that, more jobs came my way. Self doubt will inevitably be part of anybody’s journey, but once you see through it and realize you are doing this for a reason and people see the value in your work, it only pushes you to work harder and reassures you that you are on the right path.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Seth Broussard and I am a 28 year old photographer and videographer from Lafayette, Louisiana. I went to college at LSU, graduated with a Business Management degree and then moved to New Orleans, where I have lived for the past 6 years. Currently, I work two jobs – I own my own media company, Seth Broussard Media, and work as a Project Manager at a commercial print shop (CCI Productions), with clients such as the New Orleans Saints & Pelicans, Tulane University, and many production companies in the New Orleans area. My professional photography/videography career began in college where I started shooting concerts and festivals. After college, I ventured into weddings, real estate, and food & beverage photography and videography. I have also leveraged my connections with CCI to shoot content for multiple professional and collegiate level sports organizations. I am a licensed drone pilot and have done a variety of aerial photography & videography jobs. My personal instagram is @sethbroussard, my New Orleans drone content lives at @aerial.nola and you can find my food/beverage photography @platesandpours_.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Patience 2. Consistency 3. Hard Work
Success does not come overnight. Depending on your goals, it may take weeks, months, or even years for you to get where you want to be. You must remain patient with yourself and realize that if you stay consistent and put in quality, hard work, that the results will eventually come. My advice for folks who are early in their journey is to constantly work on building your network with people you trust and with people who are further along than you. You can learn so much from people who are in the industry you are looking to get into – don’t be afraid to reach out to them and express an interest in learning from them. Another great piece of advice I received is to keep putting your work out there. At times it may seem like your work isn’t good enough or you aren’t proud of it, but I would urge you to still put it out there – post it, ask for feedback and stay consistent. Consistency is key! Finally, I would say if you want to break into an industry where you have no experience, don’t be afraid to work for free if you are just starting out. You can build meaningful relationships and learn so much by doing this. Many of those opportunities will result in repeat work and eventually getting paid doing something you love.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My wife, Cristina, has been instrumental in my success. She is my biggest supporter. She shares everything I post on social media, she shares all of the posts with her friends and asks them to share the posts for me. She works in sales and consults with many small businesses and is constantly is promoting my services or trying to connect with me with people who may need photography or videography services. I am so lucky to have someone who cares so deeply about me succeeding and who would do anything to help me grow my business. She also reviews my rough drafts and gives me detailed feedback whenever I ask. I certainly don’t take her for granted.
