We were lucky to catch up with Seth Lubaton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Seth, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Growing up in my parents clothing business, I saw the highs and lows of building something from scratch. I remember the late nights, the hectic schedule, and the pride they felt when things went well—and the stress when they didn’t. Watching them taught me resilience and the value of persistence, showing me that hard work and adaptability are keys to achieving goals. One of my life mantras, “monkey see, monkey do,” means more than just copying, it’s a reminder to embody their grit and determination whenever I face challenges.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a muralist, bonsai culturist, woodworker, dad, husband, and artist from Virginia Beach, with over eight years in the creative industry. My art journey began in graphic design at a sign shop, where I developed foundational skills and a passion for painting. My first large-scale mural, created at the 2019 VIBE Muralfest, inspired me to launch my own mural business in 2020.
Since then, I’ve completed over 60 murals, each bringing life and vibrancy to the walls of my hometown. My style draws from the Hampton Roads community and the natural beauty surrounding us, blending bright colors and lively patterns to spread positivity. If you’re ever in Hampton Roads, look out for my work; each piece reflects my passion for art and my mission to uplift through creative expression.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Relationships, Confidence and Persistence
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Life haha. Trying to maintain a growing family as well a business with all the other things squeezed into it. Growth is challenging. But worth it.
