We were lucky to catch up with Sevier Crespo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sevier, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
From the awareness of knowing that things can be done, that dreams do come true, that goals do get accomplished. I’m aware of this because I’ve observed others having accomplished these things, which means it can be done. That’s the game of life. You play it and give it your all, be the best you can be. Obviously, some days are better than others. But if you can slide into your grave tattered and beaten, having given it your all, to me that’s a sign you’ve had an awfully good life.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a producer working in film, TV, and commercials. My company is called the Peanut Gallery Group. I think there is a perspective where you think outside the box, when you question the status quo through creativity and art, and you have others question the status quo or think outside the box as well. To me, that’s exciting. Also, to stimulate society through creativity with other artists, that’s exciting as well. This is what we do, what pays off in terms of humanity, spirit to spirit, soul to soul. It’s not about the number of watches you have, the clothes, cars, that doesn’t do anything really. Brand-wise, that’s what the Peanut Gallery group represents. In terms of upcoming projects, we have Werewolves, on which I was a producer/line producer. It has a theatrical release later this year of December 6. I’m very excited about that project. We also have a project in post-production called Billy Knight. It’s looking fantastic and hopefully there is more on that project to come soon.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
You must be tenacious, to try to understand as much as possible in life. If you don’t understand things then you need to inform yourself and try to understand it, which in turn gives you confidence, security, and stability. I encourage others to also be as morally ethical as possible. There’s a saying that says the person with the black hat will win all the time. Society makes us feel like people in black hats are the winners in life. But that’s not true. It’s false. Know that there is something respectful about holding your head high and speaking your mind. You want to be respected and acknowledged for that, because at the end of the day, people will want to work and associate with you because they trust you.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
After they got over the shock of me wanting to be in the entertainment industry, they motivated me. They told me to be the best I could possibly be at that position, to give it my all and to never quit. That was always my parents’ thing—being supportive. My dad never supported any whining. He wasn’t into that. He said if you want to be a janitor, be the very best janitor. Give it your all—always. There’s no crying in baseball. We go all out with a smile on your face. My parents have been my number one cheerleaders.
