We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shaakavelli X. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shaakavelli below.
Shaakavelli, thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
Funny thing about that, the way I feel is in order to communicate to another person in this day and age, Especially ‘Effectively’, is a bit of a challenge. Many people we’re surrounded by are routed on output only and rarely take any input. So I feel the best way too communicate For me at least, is from My music. When I could let everything I have building up out on the track .. it makes it kinda hard for someone to talk back and try to explain to me that they have all the answers. I had learned at a young age that silence speaks the loudest.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Just a light skin that was born in 1998 in Far Rockaway, Queens. Moved upstate Roughly when I was 7-8. Music started with me at a young age. My Uncle really kind of introduced me to the production side, there was only so much he really could show me being so young of an age I was. He had drums, guitars, and so much musical equipment that was just laying around in his house, that once I saw what he could do with it, I instantly had a Passion for it. Fast Forward 10-15 years to when I was 16-17. I knew in my head that no matter what happens in the future I’m going to be doing something that’s going to express my creativity. I started rapping as a teenager, my big brother always rapped and kinda got me into it. I kinda like putting the words together. So Started to Learn my voice, started to write down lyrics. The very first time I went to the studio, I left it saying “I know what ima be doing for the rest of my life”. As time went on I realized spending so much money on different studios that, nobody really really knows you sound like you do, also I was just so intrigued in learning music. So I made an investment to get the stuff to make it myself. From that point on I started beat making first. Then I Dabbled into recording vocals and also using ones voice just as an instrument itself. Just kept learning and learning. Passion and Truley just loving music Keeps me going. Now I am currently still a student of the game, but let’s just say I’m the teachers pet lol What I do is special, not to just me but to everyone. Music connects people in ways that are literally spiritual. There is not wrong in music and that is the Beauty of it. Me and my team are currently on a mission to simply get our message across without a conversation or debate…We are going to let the music talks for itself.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would Definitely say Being an over thinker / over analyzers help me dramatically. I just always try think 360 degrees around a subject, which I believe helped me Become more Social aware of my surroundings. Me growing up from low class, in the projects, really impacted my journey and still effectively does to this day. I feel as if coming from the bottom makes a person sometimes Appreciate a lot of stuff more. Folks need to just stop putting on a mask to hide who they really are. I could say the same thing with music.I feel as If people really made music, without getting influenced by another perons “sound” like truly made what they wanted to make. The whole music industry and just the music out would be So so different. Instead to me I think it’s more of a Pyramid scheme and all about that deal and who signing what check. I would just also remind them, that there’s no wrong in music.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I would say my biggest area of growth in the last past 12 months would be Mental Strength. Mental health is a big part in one’s day to day. Just been working on growing my wisdom, and my mental structure.
