Meet Shades of Oleander

We recently connected with Shades of Oleander and have shared our conversation below.

Shades of, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I think it just hit me one day. I realized that none of us know what we’re doing. Usually we’re all just doing the best we can with what we have and that helped take some of the pressure off. And then I watched confident people and realized how attractive confidence can be in a person. There’s no pressure and mostly people like to see confident people in action.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
We are a three-piece rock band proudly based out of Austin, Texas. Our focus lies in creating original music that we pour our hearts into, and we’ve been fortunate enough to release an album and a few singles so far.

The process of writing and performing our own music is something we absolutely cherish. There’s a special kind of joy in seeing our creations come to life and hoping they resonate with you as much as they do with us.

We have some exciting news! This month, we’re all set to drop a new single called ‘Room to Improve,’ and we can’t wait for you to hear it. Additionally, later this year, we’re planning to release another single titled ‘2:45,’ so be on the lookout for that one too!

We love connecting with our audience through live shows, and we’ve been fortunate to play gigs all around the Austin area. If you’re in the vicinity, we’d be thrilled to have you join us at one of our upcoming shows. There’s nothing like sharing the energy of live music with all of you.

Thank you for your support, and we hope you enjoy our music as much as we enjoy creating it. Rock on!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on our incredible journey as a rock band, there have been three key elements that truly shaped our path and growth.

First and foremost, passion has been the driving force behind everything we do. It’s the fire that ignited our formation three years ago and continues to fuel our creativity. For anyone starting their musical journey, we can’t stress enough how crucial it is to be deeply passionate about your craft. When you have that burning desire within, you’ll find the motivation to persevere through challenges and keep pushing yourself to improve.

Secondly, communication and collaboration have played a vital role in our success. As a band, we learned early on that open and honest communication is the glue that holds us together. Sharing ideas, giving and receiving feedback, and working harmoniously as a team have allowed us to bring out the best in each other. So, to those starting out, foster a culture of open communication within your group. Embrace constructive criticism and listen to each other’s perspectives. It’s through this synergy that true magic happens.

Lastly, adaptability and a willingness to learn have been instrumental in our growth. The music industry is ever-evolving, and being adaptable has helped us stay relevant and navigate changing landscapes. We’ve embraced new technologies, explored different genres, and learned from our experiences and mistakes. For newcomers, we urge you to stay curious and be open to learning. Be willing to experiment and step outside your comfort zone. Growth comes from pushing boundaries and embracing change.

To sum it up, passion, communication, and adaptability are the three pillars that have made our journey so impactful. For those just starting out, we encourage you to nurture your passion, communicate effectively with your bandmates, and remain adaptable in the face of challenges. Trust the process, stay dedicated, and always keep the music alive in your hearts. Best of luck on your musical journey!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Give yourself time and let yourself breathe. None of us are making it out alive anyway. Plus, if no one comes from the future to stop you, how bad can it actually be?
