Meet Shae Almighty

We were lucky to catch up with Shae Almighty recently and have shared our conversation below.

Shae, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.

The worst burnout I’ve experienced in my career happened in October 2025. I was working nonstop from balancing custom orders, alterations, and manufacturing. I was pulling back-to-back all nighters with only two to three hours of sleep in between. I was running purely on fumes and energy drinks, and my excitement for sewing had almost completely disappeared.

This experience taught me an important truth: you can’t outwork burnout. You can’t keep telling yourself you’ll rest after “one more order,” because if you’re blessed enough, the orders will never stop. But eventually you will. Your body will force you to slow down (voluntarily or involuntarily) because rest isn’t optional.

I learned that the only real antidote to burnout is rest and recovery, especially from the constant pressure that comes with entrepreneurship and artistry. This provides you time to pause and reconnect with your creativity so you can return to your work with a sharp mind, rested eyes and energy.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a 23-year-old fashion designer and seamstress, and I offer everything from bespoke apparel and alterations to garment reconstruction, manufacturing, virtual sewing classes, and ready-to-wear pieces. All through my brand , Youreccentrics.

This quarter I’m focused on building my ready-to-wear catalog for my clothing brand and mastering the technical side of my craft. Taking a step back from bespoke apparel and alterations and taking a closer look into the foundational skills I may have skipped over as a self taught seamstress.

I’m also super excited to share that I’ve been invited to showcase three avant-garde looks at the Michigan Fashion Week Christmas Couture Exhibition on December 20th, 2025. If you want to see my pieces in person, tickets are available online.

What excites me most about my career is witnessing each step of my growth. Each level holds a whole new world of opportunities, creativity, and experiences that I didn’t have access to before. It makes me think of my 17-year-old self that dreamed of a life like this and I’m so grateful to God who has allowed me to reach this point in my career.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, one of the most impactful qualities in my journey has been perseverance. It’s no secret that it can take years before a business becomes consistently profitable, so the ability to practice patience and delayed gratification is essential.

There’s a photo you may have seen. It’s of two miners digging for gold—one gives up just inches before striking it, while the other keeps going and strikes gold. This speaks volumes to anything in life you want to accomplish because nothing worthwhile comes easy. Perseverance is really the defining factor between giving up too soon and reaching the breakthrough you’ve been working toward.

Another skill that has played a major role in my growth is customer service. This wasn’t something I learned in a classroom—it came from my work experience and the jobs I held before becoming a full-time fashion designer. Those positions taught me what true customer care looks like and why it matters. I strongly believe every service provider should learn customer service before anything else. It feels like a lost art in entrepreneurship today, but it’s the foundation of a sustainable business. Great customer service builds trust, builds clientele, and gets referrals.

Lastly, learning what marketing is and how to effectively do it. My best advice for learning how to market is to watch other successful businesses and analyze the way they market themselves, their products or their services.

Within the fashionable industry marketing is especially important to understand because pretty clothing isn’t always enough. I heard a saying “ the best design is nothing without proper marketing ”. Marketing is the backbone of every business and in this day and age people mistake content for marketing and that’s why a lot of business owners find themselves stuck in the world of algorithms.

Getting your product in front of the right people is what truly keeps a business alive. This is why I believe a good marketing strategy will always be more effective than posting for the algorithm.
