ShaJuan, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
My generosity was inherited from my mother. She was always the nicest person. She taught me to always treat the Janitor with the same respect as the same as the CEO because you never know what people will become or what they have been through.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is ShaJuan Thomas and I am a Full Figured model from Virginia that has recently relocated to Georgia. . Since adolescence, I dreamed of being a model and actress, but I was often discouraged by others because I wasn’t standard model size. After experiencing the loss of my grandmother in 2021 I realized that life was too short not to pursue my dreams further. Since 2022, I have modeled in over 50 runway shows, been published both nationally and internationally, participated in branding campaigns, commercials, and background acting. What feels most special about this career to me is inspiring others who have struggled with their differences. I love advocating for plus size persons and helping others build confidence and appreciation for their beauty no matter their size, height, or disability. Something that’s new with me is I have officially been chosen as the female 2024 Cover Model for Crusade of Curves! Crusade of Curves focuses on increasing the awareness and impact of small businesses, creating brand awareness and leveraging a wide range of media avenues for the plus size community. My goal is to promote change the fashion industry all over the world and showcase that no matter your size, age, gender, or hardships, you can still fulfill your dreams.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities/skills that have been most impactful on my journey include: willingness to learn, dedication, and networking. The advice I have for others early in their journey is to practice consistently to develop their skills and embrace every opportunity, even the ones that seem small. Sometimes you meet the best, most influential people in the strangest places.
