Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shakeemah Murray. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shakeemah, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My Resilience is rooted in my early life experiences, growing up in a single-parent household with my siblings. The challenges I faced during those early years forced me to develop strong survival skills and hone my problem-solving abilities. As we all would experience, navigating through adversity it became second nature, laying the foundation for my ability to adapt to challenges and quickly bounce back.
As I forged my path, I found myself in a male dominated field in the Banking and Finance Industry. The hurdles I encountered fueled my determination to become and entrepreneur to excel in life, each obstacle became an opportunity to showcase my resilience. The early lessons in problems solving proved invaluable as I tackled the complexities in both my personal and professional life. Turning my adversity into my purpose.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a seasoned banking professional with a passion for women’s wealth & real estate tax strategy, with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. I help business and real estate owners increase cashflow minimize taxes and leave a legacy. I am a Muli- passionate individual who began my professional career as a Financial Banker at a large bank while earning my degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
After two decades of working in the financial services industry, A short time in the Medical field. As life happened. I realized that I was worth living a life I love without toxic environments, with a passion for financial literacy, tax planning and serving clients. I increase my knowledge and began studying for the Enrolled Agent Examination, in order to navigate complex tax laws & regulations this is a work in progress.
Personally, I’m a mom of six who recently went through a separation after 27 years with my ex. It brought unexpected challenges, unavoidable court stress, unnecessary custody battle, emotionally draining Co-parent and many other issues. My ability to turn that pain into resilience is a testament to my strength. I take this hardship as an opportunity for growth and helping other women get through this process financially because these circumstances can be detrimental to women’s finances and can ultimately debilitate one’s financial circumstance.
I have had to live by the concept, “Your self-worth is not equal to your net worth.” Often, we have to remind ourselves along the way, that our bank accounts, personal relationships, business titles, have nothing to do with how valuable or worthy you are as a human being.
When I spent two decades in the financial services industry, I saw challenges firsthand, now I faced them head on. Society expectations can be a burden, I was chasing financial success, and a title. I begin to be faced with feelings of mom guilt, dissatisfaction, gender inequality and unfulfilled.
I believe life happened for me not to me, I realized I had to pivot and start building a life to help others, to be a voice to start a Podcast that reflects my knowledge of finance and women’s struggles. The Podcast called She’s building Wealth and Worth is set to launch this month.
I wanted to create this platform and be a voice, that truly reflects who I am becoming and what I believe in, and ultimately the resilience through it all.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In my journey, adaptability, persistence and financial independence were paramount, The ability to adapt allowed me to get through the uncertain times and become resilient, persistence fueled my passion to pursue my dreams, and financial independence empowered me . I would say to adapt you should expose yourself to diverse experience so you can see the bigger picture. for persistence, break goals into manageable steps and stay resilient; for financial independence, budget wisely and invest in skills that enhance earning potential. Allways strive for a balance among these qualities to ensure a well-rounded and fulling journey. Most of all give yourself grace we are designed to fall or fail but its about getting back up and trying it again. No one is perfect.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
