We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shalandria McGlown-Allen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shalandria, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
I literally just look straight ahead of me with my head high. I am always aware of my audience. So my feelings isn’t apart of my job. People are hit or miss with anything. My mind is programmed to not take anything seriously.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am creative director and designer of Hot Commodity EyeWear. My passion is all fashion elements. However the first thing that makes a statement is your face. How cool is it to accessories some ones face right? Bold shapes and colors to show case someone’s mood, style, etc.
Seen on the runway in Miami Swim Week, New York Fashion Week, LA, and ATL.
Currently published world wide in Elle, Madame Noire, Fashion Bomb Daily, Fashion Week Online, Fashion Mannuscript, and many others.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
To be truthful I didn’t have the answers at all. No mentor or direction. I had the work ethic and people skills to learn as went on daily. My journey in the beginning didn’t have programs like today. So I hustle hard and work a job to put myself in the position.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love collaborative work. Let’s connect stylists, photographers, models, and others designers. For me it’s the team effort to complete a project and build relationships amongst one another. Easy way to networking and connect to new customers and followers.
