Meet Shameeka Samuels

We recently connected with Shameeka Samuels and have shared our conversation below.

Shameeka, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I always knew I would have a business because I always had side hutsles. I remembered my daughter’s 1st Birthday/Christening, I went all out with decorating, theme etc. For the next couple of years she had a birthday party, Next thing I know I was planning parties and events. I was getting paid to be an event planner. Event Planning is something that comes naturally to me so I was able to incorporate in my current Business.

I find my purpose doing the things I love or interested in doing or learning.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Back in 2007, I was a true shopper addict running up credit Cards with high interest rates puchasing clothes and accessories. Payday would come around and I would have so many bills to pay. I finally decided that i would find clothes and accessories like my favorite stores Zara & H&M. My Secret Treasures Boutique was born. It took 2 years to source and find clothing to my liking. I was able to get my brand on racks in other boutiques, Eventually I had a shop in SoHo Manhattan, Nyc.

In 2019, I decided to Re-Brand so I shut down My Secret Treasures Boutique because the passion was dying, I was no longer focus. I needed more but was unsure of what. I seeked help, got a Business and Branding Coach to help guide me on this journey I was ready to go on.

It’s okay to start over which I refer to as Starting something new. The Staples Showroom Launched Feb 7, 2020 and it was successful but the March 2020 Covid Happened.
I had to think of something quick because the new collection was work attire that could be dress down, I quickly added lounge wear to the collection and my sales went back up.

I took passion from shopping for clothes for myself to shopping and curating collections for others, I love seeing others happy and wearing their favorites from The Staples Showroom.

As the Owner of The Staples Showroom, I source and curate collection that’s Comfy and Stylish for women on the go whether it’s a career women, soccer mom etc.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

On this journey , I learned to be patience, celebrate the small wins and make time for myself.

Advice

There are so much more resources out there now that can assist you along the way on your journey, take advantage of them.

Be willing to learn something new everyday.

You don’t have to be expert in everything and that’s okay

Be present in life and with everything you do, I’m re-learning that myself.

Don’t rush the process because you may pay for later and have to start over. Value your Time and Money.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

I actually think both is needed.

Perfecting things you already know leads to growth. To me growth is needed to succeed in life in general. I’m always looking for ways to improve things I already know because time is changing. We don’t do things the same way ours parents once did. Believe it or not people are always looking for the next best thing. For example, Technology constantly changes.

I’m strong believer in improving what we lack of or weak in, everyone has room to grow. I feel some are afraid to say they don’t know or need help because of what others may think. There’s so much resources out there to assist us and guide us.

I say invest in a class, coach even youtube have how-to-do videos to help. I wasn’t good with email marketing so I joined a membership and I’m much better now. Did you know Segmentation is the key when emailing

I learn in business we all have competitors, selling the same thing. You can either take what they don’t talk about when selling that item and use it as a pain point. Or do something they aren’t doing and run with it
