Meet Shameka Jackson

We were lucky to catch up with Shameka Jackson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Shameka, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
For me, it came through seeking God in prayer and His word. I believe that when you posture yourself before God and truly seek after Him, He will reveal Himself and provide answers to the things we are seeking Him for. Jeremiah 29:12-13 says, “Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

I knew that seeking purpose outside of God would leave me feeling empty and unfulfilled. I did that for years and did not realize I was aimlessly wandering through life. I knew how to function in many roles but if God did not call me to those places and spaces, what was the real reason for me being there? I was just taking up space.

I started to get serious and I had several questions. I started my journey with Jesus on July 14, 2011 and that was the best decision ever. The more I read the Word of God, the more my eyes became opened. Doing so made me realize that a person who receives revelation of who they are is a powerful person.

We find our purpose in God. Acts 17:28 tells us that it is in Him that we live and move and have our being (emphasis mine). All we have to do is seek Him. He tells us to “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an author and Christian publisher. I spend ample amounts of time writing and assisting others with writing and publishing their books. I have always had a passion for writing. When I was a little girl, I would escape to my room and write away. It was so therapeutic for me and it was a great way to express myself.

I now use writing as a tool to help others in their every day life. I blogged for years and wrote for several different communities.

We all have a story and I help writers pen their stories so they can encourage others. I believe our stories are powerful tools that give readers the hope and courage they need to get through their situation. In 2021, God called me to birth Called to Write Publishing & Consulting and with this business, I help others reach the world, the “write way–one testimony, one inspiring story at a time.

I offer several publishing packages to assist with bringing stories to reality. It brings me great pleasure to be able to help others in such a way.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resilience, patience and confidence are three qualities that have been the most impactful in my journey. Challenges will come but how we view the challenges will determine everything. Either they will cause you to throw in the towel or they can be the fire that you need to keep going. I like to think that challenges help build character. They help us to see what we’re actually made of and if we are going to keep going or call it quits.

Being a business owner has caused me to really develop patience. When things aren’t going as I think they should, I have to remember that some things take time and that I have to be okay with that. If I keep being diligent, I will see the fruit of my labor.

When it comes to confidence, I would say I struggled in this area in the beginning. I doubted myself as well as my abilities. But the more I have researched and completed several projects, my confidence in myself as well as what I can do has increased.

I want to encourage others to keep going after their goals and dreams even if they do not see any fruit starting off. Continue to be diligent and work as if you are working for the Lord. You will reap if you do not faint.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I know there are a lot of self-help books that are out there but the Bible has played an important role in my development. There have been moments I have been convicted due to my way of thinking or even some of my actions. Yet, the Bible is full of wisdom and instructions that help with navigating this thing called life. We will encounter so much but if we are building our life on the right foundation and diligently doing what is required of us, we shall have security in Jesus.

The most impactful nuggets of wisdom I have received are from these Scriptures: “The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich” (Proverbs 13:4); “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25).

These Scriptures remind me to follow the Word of God and to be good steward over what He has given me!
