Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shamier Floyd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Shamier , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Purpose isn’t what we you do. Purpose answers the question of why we do what we do. Finding who you are is a gradual process. For some it involves seeking happiness , fulfillment , personal growth , and spiritual enlightenment. As for me I found my purpose by finding God. That saying of sometimes you have to unlearn somethings to learn something new applied to my walk. What I knew about him when I was child only grew as an adult. There’s been moments in my adult life where I faced identity struggles , lack of direction , and challenging life circumstances. The peace and guidance I longed for didn’t reside inside my mother , a friend , or any substance that could distract me from life. How can you trust/believe in something you never seen or met. That’s faith , trusting without evidence. Through this I seen my life take a different path. I underwent personal transformation , found peace and inner strength , and seen there was more to life than what I had been experiencing. This created perseverance which helped me stay persistent. Whenever I face difficulty or delay in a goal I know that it’s not over when I lose , it’s only over if I quit. James 1: 3-5 says ” whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance , let perseverance finish it works that you may be mature and complete”.

My Name is Shamier! I’m 23 years old from the Southside of Atlanta,Ga. I’m an inspiring SFX Makeup artist and model. I’m apart of a community of young women who seeks to be closer to God. The love for SFX makeup comes from me being a major Sci-fi lover. Growing up my grandmother kept the tv on Sy-Fy so I grew up seeing crazy monsters , aliens , creatures , and the unimaginable. From their costumes and makeup life was given. I use modeling as a gateway to combine the world of Sci-fi and turn it into fashion. Fashion/modeling in my opinion is simply about how creative you are. Like what makes you stand out ? That’s my signature the makeup.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The main three for me would be communication, forgiveness, and perseverance. Being able to express your feelings and thoughts in a healthy way is key. Forgiveness is a quality where there is no anger or hatred. An “ eye for an eye” only ends up hurting you. It’s better to have a heart full of love rather than a revengeful spirit. Despite the difficulty never give up. No matter how long it takes you never give up. Why give up today when tomorrow could be the day you win?

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I think it’s better to invest in the areas you’re not as strong in. Your weakness can become your greatest strengths. Our weaknesses can be either physical, mental , emotional, and social. Once you’ve identified the areas which aren’t as strong as other you can find a strategy to maintain them. Our weaknesses are the truth in our lives. Procrastination, impatience , perfectionism , lack of confidence , poor time management , taking constructive criticism , conflict avoidance , overcommitting , and stubbornness. Understanding your strengths and weakness is the first step toward self-improvement. Their two sides of the same coin represent the positive and negative attributes of a person.
