Meet Shamika Rolle

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shamika Rolle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Shamika, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I navigate life with the belief that “I can do hard things.” This notion has aided me in developing the courage required to pursue my passions and interests endlessly (even at the risk of failure).

I am very intentional in the pursuit of my goals. My will to accomplish all that I have set out to do helps me remain focused, grounded and optimistic irrespective of disappointment and setbacks.

I believe that a lesson can be learned from every experience no matter the outcome.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I discovered my love for personal care and beauty through my involvement in dance, modeling and pageantry.

As a teenager, I spent a lot of weekends and holidays assisting my aunt in her nail salon. I found salon life intriguing and ultimately knew I wanted to spend more time in a work space that evoked similar feelings of satisfaction.

As an island girl, I struggled with hyperpigmentation concerns stemming from bug bites and found myself searching endlessly for a means of treating this particular skin condition. Through my research, I came to discover various treatments and products that could be used to aid in healing other skin concerns.

This information was exciting and I believed that a career in Esthetics would provide me with the perfect opportunity to mesh my love for skincare with my desire to help and serve others.

I have been working as a beauty therapist for nearly four years now and my love for this career path continues to grow. I am dedicated to my goal of improving client’s results and recently became the first esthetician in The Bahamas to onboard Aerolase Neo Elite in my local skincare practice.

Aerolase Neo Elite provides transformative results for over 36 skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, nail fungus, scar and stretch mark therapy and promises to be a game changer in the way we treat skin locally.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1) Remain committed to learning and evolving in your field by taking additional training courses.

2) Be authentic and show up for your brand by educating potential clients on the services you offer.

3) Reinvest in your business.

Advice: When you are starting out in the field it can be tempting to offer as many services as possible; however, I would recommend that new beauty therapist do the work required to development a reputation as an expert in 1-2 beauty treatments max. This strategy will help therapist niche down and connect with a group of clients who will be loyal and benefit greatly from their work.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal clients are professional woman who are committed and invested in their wellness journey.

My clients are intentional about personal care, prioritizes their skin health and are committed to doing the work required to achieve and maintain stellar results.
