We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shane Appell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shane below.
Shane, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Having a career in music is a rollercoaster. Through the hard and easy times, I’m always finding new inspiration to keep my creativity alive; In everyday life, working with other artists, or analyzing other forms of art. In this industry, you have no choice but to adapt to keep from plateauing. I always refer to the quote, “I believe what stops the evolution of art is style”.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My journey in music has been nothing short of life changing. Having started through social media, I never imagined where my talent would take me. I have performed on The Today Show Morning Stage for the Famous Food Festival, Wonderama stage in Times Square, New York Fashion Week, and New York Swim Week – as well as performances in several NYC establishments. Accomplishing a following of over 1 million has just been the cherry on top. My love for this career is beyond words because I am able to inspire and uplift others with my music. I plan to consistently release new songs, build relationships with businesses, and connect with those who support me.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My journey has been driven by setting my goals extremely high, keeping an open mind, and always pushing forward. For example, when I first started out on social media, I didn’t consider 100,000 followers to be too hard to accomplish.. I just knew it would take time and effort.
My advice for anyone chasing their dream would be to do it for yourself. You will know when it feels right. Don’t do it for show, followers, or proving someone wrong. When you do it for yourself, the motivation is much more genuine.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I’ve grown the most in the details of my craft. Learning how to record and write has been a game changer for me… over the past year I’ve written and recorded more than 30 songs. I also have an awesome team. My producer, Saucy, is constantly working with me, making my creative process much more efficient. Plus, singing with others and experimenting with harmonies has made me a more well rounded artist.
Overall, the places I’ve been, people I’ve met, and opportunities I’ve been given, have all inspired me to chase my dream to the fullest. I pride myself in keeping in motion no matter how big or small my steps are.
