We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shane Scribner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shane, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever had any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
The last creative block was a difficult one for me. It took me a long time to see my path forward. I decided that instead of fighting it, I was going to ride it out and see what I could learn from being patient. During the months long journey, I learned that I was forcing my creativity to go in the direction I thought I should go instead of being open to all the possibilities.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Shane Scribner. I am a figure painter based in Colorado. I really enjoy painting people and finding modern ways to represent the human form. I am currently working on a series of paintings using bold colors and unique crops.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I am pretty stubborn about figuring out how things work. Once I get something in my head, I have to see it through. I feel like that about painting. I always want to do my best to represent the person I am painting and that means really honing in on mixing colors, refining my brush strokes, and studying the human form.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My wife, Sara, and I met in art school. She is also a figurative painter. We were married over twenty years ago when we were in our twenties so we have really grown together in our art careers and in our crafts. Whenever I am struggling to get something right on my painting, I have an extra set of eyes to help me see what I need to do. Whenever we have technical jumps, we always teach each other what we have learned.
