Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shanee McCambry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shanee, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I gained my work ethic by watching how hard my grandmother, Ruth, and mother, Pamela, worked. They worked multiple jobs and then had to come home and make sure the household was taken care of. When I was a little girl, I even went to work with my grandmother numerous times and saw how she took care of the lady’s house that she worked for. She cleaned, cooked for, and took care of her their family. She would walk to and from the majority of the time as well. My mother also worked multiple jobs herself and had long and/or rotating hours. They would come home extremely tired but still had to hold it together and then repeat it all again. They showed me that success does not come easy, and that you have to be willing to put in the hard work. They showed me it was important to manage time effectively and to try my best to balance the demands of life, family, and multiple jobs the best I can because it is a continuous and ever changing process. They also showed me how to be adaptable and resourceful.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the main 3 things on my journey outside of my faith a strong desire, a growth mindset, and resilience. There are others but these have helped to shape me to overcome challenges, turn my pain into purpose, learn new things, and grow and evolve my abilities, focus, and mindset.
If you are early in your journey or at a point on your journey where it is time to make some adjustments, being able to have those qualities takes having an open mind, always stay learning, make sure you are a supportive and positive environment, work hard, understand that life will always have challenges and setbacks but keep a positive thought process and attitude to help you to overcome them, and keep and build your faith.
I once said in an interview, “It doesn’t matter where or how you start, but what matters is that you actually finish. Success is a process of growth, preparation, evolution, and consistent action. Strive to succeed with purpose!”
Hopefully that will help someone on their journey.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
With so much on my plate and wearing many hats, it is easy to become overwhelmed. I’d say it is something to be expected. However, some times being overwhelmed can be positive in the sense that it makes us stop for a moment to take a break and breathe or even focus on ourselves.
For me, sometimes the best way I deal with being overwhelmed is to simply take a break, go for a walk, listen to music or a motivational or faith based, read, or even dance. This helps to clear my mind and start again with a fresh perspective, and then I can put a plan in place to tackle what I have to do.
I would even suggest to find out what triggers you to feel overwhelmed. I am a big advocate of therapy, so I even suggest that as well.
People make others feel bad for feeling overwhelmed but I want those reading this to remember that it is okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes. Everyone experiences this feeling from time to time. The important thing is to find and have strategies and options for coping with it in a healthy, positive, and progressive way.
