We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shaneice Warfield a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shaneice, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
For as long as I can remember music, hip-hop and R&B music specifically, has always been a staple in my life. My father had a great ear for music and we’d listen to a lot of oldies as I was growing up. However, as hip-hop emerged and became explosive in the 80s/90s it became synonymous with the culture around me. Growing up in the inner-city of Philadelphia, hip-hop was a way of life for me and before I knew it, music became synonymous with me. I always knew I wanted to be in music, I just didn’t know how. I took an untraditional route by taking on several roles within education before transitioning into the live music/concert production and tour management industry. While in my role as the Assistant Director of Student Involvement & Concert Production at Occidental College, I found my passion that allowed me to blend my skill set of managing event logistics with music (Concert Production). In this role, I oversaw the student concert board and radio station. I managed the budget of these two entities and oversaw the production of all of their on-campus shows ranging from large/festival-style productions to small cafe open mic nights on campus.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a known concert producer and tour manager in the hip-hop and R&B industry and the CEO & Founder of a virtual series platform, Orientation™. I have produced concerts and tour managed for some of hip-hop and R&B’s most popular artists. I recently created my brand Orientation, which is an online platform that highlights emerging talent in hip-hop and R&B. Orientation is like a virtual backstage pass that grants access to the world of emerging artists. We explore the journeys and aspirations of the next generation of hip-hop and R&B. From their humble beginnings to their dream collaborations. Followed by a live-to-tape performance, Orientation is the destination for discovering the next big thing in hip-hop and R&B. Orientation is special because it is a platform that’s exclusively for newcomers to the music industry. Our first few episodes have featured talented artists like: southern soul artist, TA Thomas and Actress/Singer, Jazlyn Martin, from NBC/ Peacock’s BEL-AIR series. We are setting our sights on Orientation becoming an intimate music festival in the coming year (Orientation Fest).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’d say the three qualities I’ve always relied on the most, as I am still navigating my career journey, are courage, intention, and impact. I try to always put these qualities at the forefront of any decisions I make or any projects/events I take on. I think it’s important to keep courage as a quality for growth and not staying within your comfort zone to always ensure you’re striving to the next level. Having confidence in yourself and being rooted in your purpose is helpful when in the pursuit of your dreams/ purpose.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
As a new/small business owner, it is challenging to wear multiple hats, while keeping the Orientation platform afloat. At any given moment, I am operating as the CEO and the lawyer, the social media marketer, the producer, Human Resources, etc. As I am building this foundation and investing in my own business, I do not have the capitol to keep an entire staff afloat so often times, I have to do things myself to keep the Orientation platform moving forward.
