Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shanice Sewell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shanice, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
How did I find my purpose? Mmmh. I am still in the discovery of my purpose because I believe that there are many paths to what I’m here to do. But above all I know that I’m here to serve others whether it is in the capacity of a daughter, a sister, a wife a mom, a writer a singer, etc, the list goes on.
To zoom in on my musical journey I’d say, the loss brought me here. I sang at my mom’s funeral which made me realize the courage that I have to do this, you know, to stand so strong in front of a lot of people to sing and it was then I learned how good I was at singing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a singer-songwriter and performing artist.
What’s unique about it is when I write a song record and release it, it connects with people however the connection hits differently when I perform it live.
I am the type of artist who strives to make every performance memorable, by putting new life into each song, and how I execute that is by centering myself, having a connection with my audience, and most importantly allowing the Most High to lead me.
I have a new single coming out on the 14th of February titled “Dear Me”, pretty much a letter to myself, which I think plenty people will relate to. I’m also working on my Debut Ep which I’m looking to share real soon.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Belief in self – “Without confidence in self you are twice defeated in the race of life” Marcus Garvey. One of my favorite quotes. Belief in oneself (confidence in self) is the most important quality you need to thrive in anything you do, you have to be a bit delusional with it too especially if you weren’t dealt a great hand to start.
2. Determination- This has been the consistent theme of my entire journey and i think without it I wouldn’t have been creating and performing after all the many life challenges I’ve been through even to this day.
3. Thick-skinned- You have to develop a barrier for yourself to be able to take the nos, the harsh feedback, and the negativity from people who aren’t fans of what you do.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am currently seeking organisers and promoters that i can partner with to bring my performances international. Persons can connect with me via email at [email protected] or by sending me a DM on my Instagram @theofficialshanicesewell
