We were lucky to catch up with Shanice The Ceo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shanice the CEO, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
I overcame burnout by identifying its root causes and how it manifested for me. Over the course of a decade, I had become a high-functioning perfectionist, believing that my value was tied to working nonstop for others. It wasn’t until the last few years that I had to step back and reassess my work ethic and environment to nurture healthier self-care practices.
Avoiding burnout meant setting boundaries with my time and presence. I got real about my capacity, being honest about what I could and couldn’t take on. This also meant accepting that giving 100% of me is far more impactful than trying to push through on less. One way I achieved this was, I began viewing PTO as earned time that I needed to preserve myself—because I am the prize. Taking time off to travel, spend time with my sister, for extended therapy sessions, or have “me time” became a necessity for my well-being.
Once I embraced this mindset, I was able to pivot fully. Now, I overcome burnout without hesitation by practicing regular mental and physical self-care, exploring new environments through travel, and maintaining my boundaries to create a more balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a young minority professional, I faced numerous workplace challenges that often left me feeling isolated and unauthentic. These experiences inspired me to create Soul Movement Success, a company dedicated to providing tailored coaching and consulting services to support the development of BIPOC women in every stage of their careers.
Soul Movement Success is more than just a business venture for me—it’s a passion born out of my struggles and triumphs as a black woman navigating the working world. I vividly remember the lack of tailored resources and safe spaces that supported my unique experiences and desires when I started my career, and I am determined to change that narrative for future generations of BIPOC women. Through my company, I empower black and brown women to realize their professional goals, strategize with small businesses for growth through equity and efficiency solutions, and serve in my community for a more equipped and just society.
At Soul Movement Success, I understand the unique challenges that BIPOC women face in the workplace and in life. In response, I curate safe spaces like my annual SOULpowerment summit, coming this Spring, to empower Black women to embrace their authentic selves in spaces historically dominated by white narratives. By creating a supportive environment, it is my goal to help others find strength and community in shared experiences.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have shaped my journey are empathy, adaptability, and financial management. Practicing empathy has given me a clearer understanding of my community’s needs, helping me create real solutions for the challenges leaders and entrepreneurs face. It’s also strengthened my ability to listen deeply and ensure that their voices are truly heard.
Adaptability has been a survival skill in this entrepreneurial journey. There are always unexpected twists, and you have to pivot fast to keep things moving. I’ve had full plans mapped out, only to meet with a client and realize I had to redesign the entire program on the spot. Being able to adjust to changes in compliance, societal shifts, and personal goals keeps me ready to respond to whatever comes my way.
And let’s be real—this journey isn’t cheap, and not every season is profitable. Managing my finances has been key to staying out of debt and running the business within my means while still growing. Access to capital isn’t easy for Black women business owners, so finding alternative ways to secure funding has been a game-changer. One instance in particular was receiving a $10k grant from The Boss Network & Sage’s “Invest In Progress” program in the Spring of 2024. Thanks to them I gained the start-up funding needed to quit my 9-5 and fully invest in my company. As a bonus, I acquired an amazing support system of founders and advisors that has been a motivator for me in this first year of self-employment.
As an entrepreneur growing her startup, these three qualities have kept me in the race to build my legacy and serve in a meaningful way.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal “succeeder” is a purpose-driven leader, entrepreneur, or organizational decision-maker from and serving underrepresented communities, especially Black and Brown women. They are either in the early stages of business development, seeking to build a strong, inclusive foundation, or are focused on transforming their workplace culture to be more equitable and supportive of diverse talent. Some are also looking to sustain their workforce by enhancing employee well-being and retention through equitable and growth-oriented practices. They value a culturally responsive, holistic approach and are committed to creating lasting change rather than quick fixes. They seek a compassionate partner who understands their unique challenges and can provide strategic, tailored solutions. They seek authentic collaboration, strategic insight, and practical tools to help them build and sustain healthy, equitable, and impactful organizational cultures.
