Meet Shanna Hampton

We were lucky to catch up with Shanna Hampton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanna, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I believe my generosity came from my grandmother Kate. As a child, I watched her selflessly give food, shelter, an ear or her time to help anyone in need. She taught her children that same trait and I am grateful for it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the mother of 3 children, Mikhaila(22) who is a recent college graduate, Raymone Jr (21) who has a YouTube channel that focuses on “a day in the life” he is RJ on da tube… SUBSCRIBE! and the baby is Micah (17) who is a football phenom entering into his last year of high school. I am so proud of them. Besides being a photographer, I am also a filmmaker that has a project on Tubi (JUUG GONE WRONG) I am writing/producing my 5th scripted project.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think my 3 qualities are , empathy, compassion and drive. I believe in business you must possess these 3 things specifically to run a successful business. My advice is to put yourself in a customer’s shoes in order to learn how to interact with and treat them.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my mom did for me was to show me how to keep going despite the odds and obstacles. She also taught me that I can do whatever I set my mind to, I just had to do it!
