Meet Shannon Hill

We recently connected with Shannon Hill and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Shannon with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My mom. There was never a moment in my life when my mom wasn’t working. She would sometimes have multiple jobs to ensure that we had everything we wanted and needed. As a new mom myself, I now understand the sacrifices she made in order to take care of my siblings and I. My mom made sure that we knew the value of work early in our lives, starting with chores. I’m grateful because I wouldn’t be who I am today without her. Nothing comes to you by sitting on your hands, you have to get up and make it happen.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve been cooking practically all my life. I knew since I was in 4th grade that I was gonna be a chef. I’ve worked at several restaurants and even ran my own catering business. That ultimately led me to starting my Low Sodium Seasoning Company Reckless Flavor.

Reckless Flavor was created because I got tired of using multiple spices as I was preparing my clients’ food. I needed something easy and flavorful. We may be a low sodium seasoning company now, but we didn’t start that way. After my father was diagnosed with hypertension, that prompted me to shift my business model into one that was healthy. I changed my recipes, did the research, and created the company that you all know and love today.

We have 5 seasoning blends: Blackened, All Purpose, Greens & Kale, Onion and Herb, and our newest release Sweet Heat which is an homage to Memphis.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience, Dedication, and Honesty.

Be patient because it’s not going to happen overnight.

You have to be committed to the journey even when the road gets rough. Whatever it is you want to do, there will be some obstacles, don’t let it stop you.

Be honest with yourself. If you’re not giving your all to the cause, don’t be upset when you aren’t getting the results that you want.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Being a new mom and entrepreneur.

I’m just taking it one day at a time. I don’t know what tomorrow will look like so as it comes at me, I deal with it.
