Meet Shannon Kim

We recently connected with Shannon Kim and have shared our conversation below.

Shannon, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Resilience, to me, means listening to your intuition, having the strength to follow those whispers, and trusting that it will all work out. These skills have been guiding forces throughout my life. Even when things felt like they were falling apart, looking back, I see how it was all connected. I was born somewhere in Korea. My adopted father told me that I was found on the streets of Daegu, South Korea when I was around 6 months old and was brought to an orphanage in Seoul, Korea. My exact age is unknown, as is my birthday. After I was adopted and came to the United States, bone density and bone development tests were done to estimate my birthdate. I had pneumonia and was malnourished in the orphanage, so the exact date was undetermined, falling within a 6-8 month range.
I lived in the orphanage until I was about 1 1/2 yrs. old. I was then put on a plane with all the other babies who were being adopted. At that time, instead of the prospective parents meeting the baby, they brought the babies here after they had already adopted them. When I arrived in Detroit, Michigan, I had a number pinned on me. This would be my “name” for this experience, connecting me with my waiting family through the adoption agency.
When I came to the United States, for the first few weeks, each time we had a meal, I would grab as much food as I could and stuff it into my diaper or my clothes, hoping to eat it later. Even though I no longer had to worry about fighting for food, these early patterns run deep, and survival is a powerful teacher.
From this young age, I knew that angels were on my shoulders guiding me, and that somehow I had the strength and inner guidance to get through anything.
I grew up in an emotionally volatile family. As a child, I coped with their adult problems of mental illness, drug addiction, and abuse. Learning how to navigate the turbulence of their unhealed wounds helped me hone my intuition and ability to read energy, which I developed in order to feel safe.
I moved across the country, established a new career, and experienced marriage and divorce within 6 years of moving from Michigan to LA. The painful experience of divorce catalyzed a deep journey of personal growth. It gave me hope and confidence to start over, involving healing my childhood wounds so I wouldn’t repeat the same emotional patterns. This took a great amount of courage, discomfort, forgiveness, and self-love. With the help of Hypnotherapy, Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP), and many other healing modalities, I began to rebuild my life and myself.
For 18 years, I expanded my intuition, communication, and energy healing skills as a high-profile hairstylist in LA. This would become the blueprint for my second and current career as a Subconscious Leadership Facilitator and Hypnotherapist.
Resilience has been the greatest gift from all of these experiences because it has taught me how to reframe my mistakes, how to find the silver lining in difficult experiences, and that it all works out.
Today, my life looks very different. I am utilizing these life lessons and accumulated skills to teach others how to build resilience, confidence, and clarity in their personal and professional lives through subconscious and energy healing tools.
I am still growing and building my resilient nature, and I am deeply grateful for all the challenges I have faced. Often, our childhood survival patterns become our greatest strengths and determine a deeper purpose for our lives and careers.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I work with Companies, Teams and Groups to help them grow personally and professionally. I teach skills in subconscious mastery, self-hypnosis, NLP and energy healing that empower you to lead others by leading yourself. Harnessing the power of the subconscious mind can revolutionize how you approach difficult conversations, stress, and energy management.

The focal point of my work is Leadership Intensives — custom-designed half day workshops for Companies, Teams and Groups, honing in on teaching tangible tools tailored to your teams unique needs.  I also offer Leadership Activations, a shorter version of the Intensives, which can be tailored to focus on the internal team or a client event.

What I love about my job is assisting people in their growth journey and helping them rediscover their true selves by equipping them with tools to empower themselves.

What is special about my job is when they have an aha moment and identify a pattern, reframe an experience, or cultivate a more positive self-feeling. These significant moments can have a lasting impact on their behavior.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Adaptability – Listen to those nudges or whispers inside of yourself, stay true to who you are and also have the flexibility to follow the energy. Staying flexible allows you to have more choices and make clear decisions in the moment when circumstances may unexpectedly change.

Energy Awareness – Notice how your body feels when you’re with people and how your energy feels after you are no longer in their company. What thoughts are you having, what feelings are coming up? Your body is a great indicator of how your energy feels, when you’re not aware of this, it’s easy to pick up other peoples energy and believe that it is yours. Gaining awareness over this will help you prioritize how your spend your energy each day.

Personal Growth – Become conscious of the patterns and thoughts that are running your life behind the scenes. Taking action is the quickest way to get unstuck, even if it’s small. Journaling is. a great way to track your growth, by reflecting back on how far you’ve come. Believe in yourself during any growth process, even though it may be difficult, you will have more freedom and choices on the other side.. Find a Mentor to guide you, forgive yourself and others and love yourself though it all.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
