We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shannon Pruitt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shannon, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Honestly? From experience. I’ve watched ideas that felt impossible turn into entire businesses. I’ve seen someone go from “my brand’s kind of a mess” to booked out and fully aligned in six weeks. That kind of before/after builds trust in the process. I don’t always expect things to be easy—but I do expect that thoughtful strategy and bold execution can shift everything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I run Sunday Muse Design, a brand strategy studio for creative business owners who are exceptional at what they do—but whose branding doesn’t quite reflect that (yet).
Most of my clients come to me with a brand that’s “fine.” Not broken. Not ugly. Just… not doing justice to what they’ve built. I help them close the gap between how good their business really is and how their brand shows up online. We do that through sharp strategy, thoughtful messaging, and design that actually pulls its weight.
The work is strategic, but never cookie-cutter. And what keeps it exciting is seeing clients go from second-guessing how they show up… to owning it fully.
Right now, my signature offer is The Headliner—a 90-minute brand strategy intensive built for founders who don’t have time to overthink. We go deep, fast. We get into your audience, your offers, your positioning, and the pieces that just aren’t clicking—and then I deliver a full strategy roadmap and brand voice guide you can actually use. It’s a total reset for brands that are ready to grow, but feeling stuck in “meh” in their messaging, visuals, and/or website.
It’s part therapist, part strategist, part creative director—and it’s designed to help you say what you do, sell it confidently, and show up like the business is already booked out.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Learning how to think like a strategist.
Not just a designer. Not just a marketer. Strategy sits underneath every offer, every launch, every brand decision. Early on, I was good at making things look good. But once I started asking better questions—about the audience, the offer, the goals—that’s when the work actually started converting.
2. Knowing how to write.
You don’t have to be a capital-W Writer to run a business. But you do need to know how to communicate in a way that sounds like a human, not a brochure. Being able to write clearly—emails, captions, sales pages, even internal docs—makes you a better communicator, seller, and leader. It’s underrated and wildly impactful.
3. Letting it be messy before it’s polished.
This one took time. It’s easy to feel like your brand, your systems, your messaging need to be perfect before you launch. But what actually builds momentum is movement. I’ve learned that most clarity comes from execution, not overthinking.
My Advice? Start before you feel “ready.” Keep the bar high, but the stakes low. And whenever you can, get in the room with people who think a few steps ahead of where you are—that proximity will teach you more than any course.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always open to the right kind of collaboration—but it has to be aligned and actually make sense for where I’m at.
Lately, I’m especially interested in things like:
-Online summits or bundles that aren’t fluff-filled
-Guest speaking or workshops for communities that serve established business owners, creatives, and women
-Podcast interviews, written articles, or features that let me talk about brand strategy, messaging, and the messy-but-worth-it parts of business growth
I also love connecting with copywriters, brand photographers, business coaches, and others who get that good branding is about more than just looking good—it’s about saying the right thing to the right people, in a way that actually works.
