Meet Shantray Miller

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shantray Miller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Shantray , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose by being a mom of two autistic beauties. It has not been easy at all from homeschooling to being an overall caregiver to them . This has done nothing but made me stronger and knowledgeable. My purpose found me by god blessing me with my two children. Currently with my children being homeschooled I have faced many challenges , one of those being recently having to quit my job due to having to be available for appointments, meetings etc for my children, and there is really no way to do that punching the clock for a company which is not of my own. I currently enjoy advocating/ answering question for families in need of direction or assistance with special needs children. We have to stick together. It’s hard enough and my knowledge is your knowledge. My hand is yours every step of the way

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am 31. I am from Virginia. Growing up I had a hard time speaking up for myself and I also ended up in a domestic relationship didn’t think I would be here today. So I decided to take that negative and step out of my shell to be able to assist people in need of an advocate or questions to be answered. Me and my children are apart of my Mother’s National Nonprofit Parents Against Bullying. I am very hands on and my children are Ambassadors for the non profit . I also make sure i stand on the mission to continue to “Embrace a proactive stance on anti-bullying education and awareness for your children ,youth and families around the world “. I also Make sure my children with their disabilities know that they’re different and like it! I am Teaching them how to stand pouring positive affirmations that your Son is the Co Arthur of a coloring book . More information can be found at www.pabkidz.org

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three most important skills that have helped me through is one endurance. You have to know that it will all be worth it in the end never give up. Two strength without strength I have no idea where I would be. I never focused on the why certain struggles came my way just how am I going to make it out of them. Three god first . With him I can be or do anything that my mind sets to do don’t be afraid of any negative outcomes just do it. The advice I would give someone in there early journey would simply be don’t give up. No matter how high the battle is remember you will get through

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The number one obstacle that I have been facing but currently overcoming is starting my own business. I never knew where to start or which route I wanted to take, but with time and understanding the volunteer work in and out of the community I have been doing is actually helpful and people actually want to hear from me and need my assistance I have finally put a plan together to start that business. I also am working on the funding needed my interest of creating / designing logos and tshirts for business owners.
