Meet ShaQwana Evans

We recently connected with ShaQwana Evans and have shared our conversation below.

ShaQwana , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from the tests I’ve faced throughout life. Every trial and tribulation I’ve experienced has played a role in shaping who I am today and strengthening my ability to keep going, even when things are hard.

Being a mother of three has deeply influenced my mindset. I don’t believe in doing the bare minimum & failure isn’t an option when others are depending on you. I’ve learned to view “no” not as a stop sign, but as redirection. If something doesn’t work out, I take it as a sign that it wasn’t meant for me and focus on finding my yes.

I also draw strength from certain family members who embody perseverance and determination. Watching how they’ve navigated life’s challenges has reinforced my belief that resilience is built, not given.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Beauty by Q is more than a salon. It’s a safe, judgment-free space where clients are encouraged to embrace and understand their natural textured hair. My work focuses on the health and growth of natural hair through intentional treatments, education, and customized natural hair care plans designed to support long-term results, not just temporary styles.

What I find most exciting about what I do is helping clients build a relationship with their natural hair. The experience goes far beyond getting their hair done. From start to finish, my goal is for each person to feel comfortable, seen, and confident in their naturalness.

Beauty by Q exists to help people feel empowered in knowing their hair texture, what works for them, what doesn’t, and how to care for it properly. Whether someone wears their natural hair out or prefers protective styles, I want them to feel confident in their hair and educated about its needs.

As the brand continues to grow, I envision expanding into natural hair groups, community education, and brand ambassador partnerships that help spread awareness, confidence, and love for natural hair. At its core, Beauty by Q is about self-acceptance, education, and creating an experience that leaves clients feeling confident long after they leave the chair.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, there are three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey.

The first is authenticity. Knowing who you are, what you want, and the true vision for your brand is foundational. When you’re clear on your purpose and stay authentic to it, decisions become easier and your work feels aligned. My advice to anyone early in their journey is to take the time to define your vision and goals clearly. Don’t build based on trends or outside pressure. Build something that genuinely reflects you.

The second is belief in yourself. There will be moments when support is limited and the results don’t immediately reflect the effort you’re putting in. During those times, self-belief is everything. You have to believe in yourself regardless of who else does or doesn’t. For those just starting out, I’d say work on strengthening your mindset daily. Rather through affirmations, learning and surrounding yourself with people who encourage growth.

The third is leading with passion instead of chasing money. When your focus is solely on money, it’s easy to lose direction or burn out. When you’re truly passionate about what you do, the consistency, growth, and opportunities follow naturally. My advice is to choose something you genuinely care about, serve with intention, and trust that the financial rewards will come as a result of doing the work with purpose.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes, I am absolutely open to partnering and collaborating. I’m especially interested in collaborating with hair and beauty companies that align with my passion for natural hair, hair health, and education. As I expand Beauty by Q, I’m also preparing to launch a hair extension line and would love to work with one or two brand ambassadors who genuinely align with my values and believe in promoting healthy, natural hair.

Beyond brand partnerships, I’m open to collaborating with other beauty stylists, educators, and creatives who share a similar purpose and vision. I truly believe that networking and collaboration open doors, spark creativity, and help spread awareness in powerful ways.

Anyone interested in collaborating or connecting can reach me on social media. I’m active on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok under @BeautyByQ. You can also reach me directly by email at [email protected].
